a pretty tight little gem of a game. great art direction complimented by a tale about the current pollution of the oceans, backed up by some solid gameplay. it's inspired by 3d action games of recent years (obviously dark souls) with the usual parry-dodge-block-attack combo. however, within that frame, it still does things its own way : what you do is rather committal, so no mashing attack brainlessly or dodging without learning what you're dodging.

the star of the show is the shell system, which serves as your magic system and your defenses. you get a decent amount of choice to customize those options and whether you want to focus more on magic, defenses or offense (sometimes with tradeoff) but every option you have at least feels usable.

the only part where the game falls a bit apart is the platforming - some segments are a tad wonky to execute. nothing particularly egregious, but whatever issues i ran into at least felt made up by the fact that thought went into how they created the world, and that helps me forgive those shortcomings.

it's not hard to see why the game had a bit of a viral moment and i think it's very much worth your time if 3d action games are up your alley in general.

it's still pretty good but capcom certainly thinks you should play the SE edition instead cause they even delisted this one

a true adventure game, you are not playing this to level or grind anything in particular. the game has you find your way down. the charm carries it in part, and the soundtrack is mostly decent, even if it can get somewhat grating if you are stuck in an area for too long, as it feels like the loops aren't long enough.

the story is delivered to you, for a lack of better description, in literal text dumps. i don't necessarily want fromsoft levels of cryptic, but the text dumps are a little jarring, especially since the rest of the game gives no real direction. there's no log of things you've done, nothing to reference other than your memory, which can get a tiny bit annoying especially since a lot of locations are simply not marked on your map, so you can lose track of things.

full disclaimer : i have only reached the first ending, which i assume to be the most basic one. i did not really feel encouraged to seek the others, because of what i've said above. the game was charming but i did not feel like it would carry the game much longer for me.

this is overall a cautious recommendation : it's a little bit weird of an adventure game, i can tell there's a lot of heart that went into this, but a tad more direction or way to reference things would've been appreciated. for many, the charm of the game will be what carries it. it somewhat feels like a shame the game is not even on all levels, but i can see a lot of people being turned off by this game.

very fun tactical/puzzle combat. on its own, what's on offer is very solid. with that said, what carries it and elevates it is the story - most tactics games either go in the medieval/fantastic, or the story does not matter much. but tactical breach wizards has an actual story, the characters are great, and the dialogue is even better. relatively on the "shorter" side for the genre, but if you crave more, there are optional dialogues and maps to play, as well as the possibility to replay missions very easily to get those perfect scenarios.

i was doubtful at first but i was wrong to be, the game is great in every single aspect.

it's a pretty alright time overall. the way the characters function with the different mechanics allow for a decent amount of planning, strategizing and run variety. game does require you to get decent at it and won't hand you free wins. might be steep at full price for people but at least a game to consider on sale!

it's good hornet's moveset is better than the knight's, the soundtrack bangs and we have a lot of lovable little freaks. Masterpiece of a game

This is the best Kamurocho has ever looked. The new Majima episode is also pretty decent, albeit a bit short.

blade prince academy has a very cool premise : RTS with customizable heroes and pause time to let you queue up actions. not unheard of in the strategy genre, but still cool when a game goes that way.

the unfortunate issue is that the game isn't very fun to *handle*, and the UI really does not help that. there are stylish bits and the game is very colorful, but it is kind of a pain to play. UI is kinda here and there, it's not really great to navigate and a lot of things kind of go against other things. the upgrade system is a good example of this - picking a upgrade AND a hero.

it's both a strength that everyone can be customized but also a pain because in a lot of instances it doubles actions you have to make and feels unwieldy. a lot of actions could easily be more streamlined. all of this doubly so on controller.

my recommendation would be to try the demo, and if you like it then sure go for the game. i think that's the best way i can recommend anyone to approach this game.

good gameplay overall even a decade and a half later. decent amount of options in the guns, plasmids and tonics means you have a decent amount of option on hand and most are worth using or pursuing (hacking sucks though). on top of that, the game has some decent levels that have good pacing. and the atmosphere in Rapture is pretty good. but the story? incredibly funny story.

the biggest issue is that the game refuses at any point to shut up. you can feel it's from the era where games were streamlined into what they are now, but even on that point bioshock constantly trips in its own feet and just refuses to shut up. countless audio logs right before story dialogue you have no way to know will happen on a first play through. several audio logs next to each other. constant story chatter. game just doesn't know when to shut up and it is the funniest thing ever. does not help that the volume mixing kinda sucks, at least from my experience! and all of this is without getting into the themes of the game.

other than that, the remaster has a handful of issues, like bugs and crashes here and there. the original version is probably better to play than this. still a decent time overall!
