This is a very fun game, and I really enjoy building my spaceship. Even if all my people starve to death.

An important note:
The PC version of this game has been stripped of all the game's online features. This means that you do not have access to:
  • Map Creation - you can create your own levels, either to create challenging scenarios, or efficient grinding maps
  • Other players' pocket netherworlds
  • Online Messages - messages scroll across a bar across the top of the screen
There may be more, but I feel like those are really the only notable things that I actually noticed. I have the game for the switch, and I barely use any of the online features.
To address the map creator, I think that it's a shame that it's gone, but only because the grinding maps made acquiring weapon mastery extremely trivial, and the challenge maps were fun. The level grinding maps are more or less useless, since the game already comes with maps suited for doing exactly that which are often far more efficient anyways.

Disgaea 5 is many things. It is a game about being true to yourself. It is a game about casting aside presuppositions. It is a game about the souls of the damned trapped in penguin suits. But most of all, it is a game about really, really big numbers.

The story of the Disgaea games have always been absurd, over the top, and not particularly deep or complicated. The characters are ridiculous, colourful, and memorable. In Disgaea 5, I like almost every character in the main cast. If you're going to stick with the game, it's likely for one of two reasons. The characters, or the mechanics.

And oh baby does this game have mechanics.

Like all the entries of Disgaea, the fifth installment has maximum level cap of 9999, and a max stats cap of 99 million. You do a soft reset on your character many times to get them closer to that max stats cap. You teach them new skills, give them passive abilities (known as evilities), train their abilities with weapons, master the many classes of the games.

You equip your characters with items that can be enhanced through the infinite and randomly generated item world. The items can be filled with their own modifiers (known as innocents), and can be enhanced to the maximum just like your characters.

The breadth and depth of the grind in this game is immense, but it rarely feels stale - to me at least.
