Honestly a frankly terrible game. A bland open world with -way- too many enemies that respawn infinitely, and no fast travel, a main character that is genuinely one of the most annoying characters I've ever encountered, and utterly abysmal puzzles.

The game is -so- close to being decent it's a shame.

A gorgeous looking Bioshock-like game that seems to have learned all of the wrong lessons from older titles.

The combat is abysmal, even with leveled up weapons, you're stuck mostly using a frankly awful pistol most of the time, which not only feels weak, but enemies don't really react to shots. It's either you break their head plate, or you kill them, otherwise, you might as well be painting dots on the enemies.

You're slow, and there's really no getting around it, the majority of the time you're just going to be wandering around at a snail's pace, having missed a turn, then having to spend 20 minutes backtracking to where you might have missed a door.

Then there's the story, the actual plot and themes and aesthetic? Fantastic, unfortunately you're stopped every 10 minutes with a radio call that prevents you from doing anything while your character argues over the phone with a girl that feels like she isn't even from this game, let alone the century the game takes place in.

I am genuine surprised that they charged money for this. The game is a half baked tech demo at best, and feels like a proof of concept.

The dialog feels like it has zero character, and there's less gameplay depth than even the SNES Star Fox game. You have shoot, missile and roll, that's it.

The game moves at a snail's pace.

Great game, legitimately cannot recommend it at this time however, as it is a technical nightmare on newer PCs.

At some point in the past, the game has completely broken due to Hyperthreading CPUs, meaning newer hardwar will refuse to load the game. -Sometimes- it'll work and load after 10 minutes, but other times it'll just wholesale crash.

If I could give a neutral review I would. Interesting to put a few hours into, but things like the difficulties/modifiers being consumables that you could immediately waste, and the sheer amount of useless, tiny stat boost items filling up the item pool just take away from a really interesting concept.

They immediately fixed the soundtrack after we rightfully complained.

Still a bizarre choice for a fantastic game.

Something is deeply wrong with how the game renders things. Regardless of settings, the game violently jitters like you have some form of stuttery motion blur activated. It's really bizarre, and causes motion sickness, even when (allegedly) running at over 100 FPS.

Styles itself as a "Retro throwback" but then lacks basic features like saving and loading, instead you're now stuck with an arcadey lives system... but the levels themselves are extremely difficult and can last up to 15 minutes, making you start. From the beginning, every time.

This is, without exaggeration, a scam. As someone who likes the previous games, they haven't done anything to actually 'remaster' the games other than possibly adding some slightly shinier shaders on some things, and now the vignette renders correctly in ultrawide.

For the price of this game (on sale) you can pick up every other game in the franchise, and you would be missing nothing. Hell, this version is missing the digital extras from the original version, so you're getting -less- content.
