Look how many hours I've clocked up in this damn game! There are 4 main reasons for this.
1. It's light on resources so I'll just pause my game and minimize if I have to go do something and I'll forget it's still going. There's probably about 150 hours there.
2. The modding community.
Honestly, this game is a dream to mod. It has so much potential and it's extremely user friendly. The game I'm playing now is so vastly different from the one I start playing all those hours ago that it's still not boring me. I didn't even start using mods until I got every single achievement and that took about 300 hours.
If it does start losing it's appeal, I just go track down some interesting new mods to spice it up a bit. There a very few issues with this game (meaning glitches, balancing, crashes, gameplay, ect) but anything that has caused issues will have a mod to fix it. ConcearedApe is doing an amazing job with upkeep but he's one dude with an assistant or two, he can't throw out constant updates.
3. ADHD.
Anyone with ADD or ADHD will be familiar with a symptom called hyperfocus. It's when your brain becomes obsessed with something the provides immediate stimulation and pulls you into it with an extremely deep, intense concentration. My brain is so incredibly disorganized and unfocused that this game is like crack to it.
You have a limited amount of time in the day to go out and work on your farm, forage for items, chase down villagers to give them presents or go fishing. At the start of the game your energy bar is so small you're waaay more likely to run out of that rather than time to so that's another element to deal with.
Then you have the actual farming aspect. What are you going to farm and why? Potatoes are fast to grow, give a great profit and can be eaten for energy but you still haven't got 5 gold parsnips for the community center. You could plant some of both but if you plant too much you'll have no energy for the mines after watering them.
How far do you want to go down in the mine today? Only 10 more levels until you reach the steel layers but your sword is having a really hard time taking down enemies and that makes it hard to find ladders. Maybe you should go fishing to try and find a treasure chest with a better weapon in it? But you really want that steel because you need to upgrade your watering can to water more crops quicker. But if you put your watering can in to be upgraded tomorrow you'll have to wait an extra day to put your pickaxe in because it's the festival tomorrow and Clint doesn't work on those days. You really need to upgrade your bronze pickaxe because it's soooo slow on the steel layers.
I created a challenge for myself to see how much progress I could make in the first summer. I have 10 save files because I put a lot of work into finding the best path of progress and took notes the entire time.
It's just so mentally satisfying!
4. JOURNEY. OF. THE. PRAIRIE. KING.
"Beat 'Journey Of The Prairie King' without dying." GO SIT ON A CACTUS CONCEAREDAPE! WHY WOULD YOU MAKE AN ACHIEVEMENT LIKE THAT?! HOW COULD YOU BE SO CRUEL?!?!?! ONLY 0.3% OF PLAYERS HAVE THAT ACHIEVEMENT AND I'M ONE OF THEM SO EAT IT.

I adored this game but I'll be the first to admit that it's for everyone.
My first playthrough didn't go too well. I played completely guide free and averaged about 3 stars per mission since I'm not the most observant person. Some of the clues just didn't make sense, I mean, why on earth would I check the trashcan in the lobby when the victem is on the top floor?
Unfortunately, the game looses a little charm with each playthrough. Knowing how each and every mission ends becomes kind of a buzz kill and you'll end up following a guide becaue you're just not invested in the story anymore, you just want to finish it and move on.
That being said, the game is still a lot of fun for at least 50 hours. I had a love/hate relationship with finding the old cars. Some looked vary similar so I'd either miss them thinking I had them already or I'd keep picking up the same one. The showcase made it difficult to track them and if I didn't save properly the cars I found would dissapear.
The acheivements were super fun to get through. Especialy the one dedicated to just destroying sh*t. 10/10.

In summary, this game is fun for the first playthrough and I recommend it. You won't get more then 100 hours out of it though.

One of the best games of all time. Hours upon hours of gameplay, super moddable and the DLC adds a lot.

Suprisingly addictive. The gameplay can be very repititive and Riptide is far easier then the first considering the early access to firearms but all in all I really enjoyed this game. 7/10
Totally predicted the ending though.
