I am so incredibly Dissapointed by the whole 2nd half of the Game and the Endings that its really souring my impression of this seemingly really cool game overall now. 5/10

All the marketing around this game screams "SCARY PARANORMAL VISUAL NOVEL D-D-DONT LOOK BEHIND YOUUUUUU!!" and admittedly, with that First whole Story and most of the early paths in the Morning up till we hit Daylight again were fantastic and suprisingly anxious. It was getting a little "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure" vibes where there was seemingly a GOAL in mind with the Soul Dregs and learning each Curse Users powers and rules and how to outwit each other. The little bit of Meta Gaming right out of Metal Gear to deal with a particular Curse User was fantastic even if it was totally a move nobody will EVER figure out within the game itself unless you accidentally check the settings menu and it clicks or you pulled up a Guide, if they'd done more of this while also making it known more WITHIN THE GAMES NARRATIVE how to do this particular thing, it would have been a stroke of genius.

You barely EVER "use" items in the whole rest of the game despite there being a dedicated button just to keep track of your inventory on screen at ALL TIMES instead of hidden away in the Menus with all the actually important information like the Files? There's tons of Character Art for people we never meet or even see directly in cutscenes or flashbacks, just to have for the Files as some kind of Red Herring. Some Character Motivations either seemingly REALLY don't fit the persons personality (I don't believe for a second THIS Guy would Ressurect THAT person, he has ulterior motives..) or their motivations are so.. inconceivably childish (An Artist? You would waste it on an ARTIST??) that I can't take them as serious threats even when scenes are meant to imply such. Some plot threads almost seem like decoys or propped up to indicate something incredibly dark and tragic and instead its "oh wait really??? Its NOT something REALLY GROSS its??" just "I know what you did Lah-Dee-Dah".

And oh my god, that final revelation is absolutely horrible. Sorry Game Devs, but just because -I- play the game doesn't mean -I- want to be PART of the narrative by including me playing the game as an actual important final story beat. Lazy as hell, awful way to wrap things up. You chose to write a story so maybe conclude things a bit cleaner within the actual narrative itself and stop stepping out of the box to break the rules of the narrative to resolve things fast.

It's great this at least didn't cost more. Honestly, with Steams Refund Policy as-is I'd say playing within those first 2 hours is the best this game gets and everything after that window of time wouldn't be worth the money. I cannot recommend this game even at it's "full" price. I'm terribly sorry because there really is something interesting here, and some genuine talent displayed early on and the Artwork and Character Designs are both Gorgeous and Terrifying, but the latter examples are totally forgotten in the later game in favor of Drama.

Actual Dream Job Simulator

This game is great if you love tinkering & disassembling stuff and just zoning out. I've never had a game be so incredibly satisfying to both actively play AND just sit and stare at.

Story is Okay, Some Characters are incredibly irritating though and I can't be bothered to actually like them despite the Game REALLY wanting me to take their side. Otherwise everyone else is pretty likable. But RIP the Original Voice Actors, they really lent the cast a much more Blue Collar taste as opposed to these slightly more polished (and grating) new versions of the characters.

I'm listing this as a positive review both in the hopes the Developers will notice and take some of this to mind & improve on either this project or future ones and because I genuinely feel there is good here. But a few things to note.

LENGTH: While Dagon is a short story, I was taking my time with this playthrough and even stepping away for a few moments at a time and this clocked in just over 45 Minutes, but if I was attentive and just running through it you could finish in probably 15 to 20 minutes or so. I can't exactly complain that a game is short when its also free but its likely not going to make much of an impression with such a light footprint.

GAMEPLAY: This "game" is for Lovecraft Fans or possibly those who can't seem to stand his writing but want to explore his works, but you will not be getting much out of this if you're looking for a game. Interaction is limited to using your mouse to look around mostly static scenes and clicking to either advance the story or to investigate some items further. There is a noticeable bug or a quirk that in some scenes that aren't locked into a particular space for you to view, if you continue looking around the game will rubber-band your view back around.

NARRATION: The Reading isn't exactly lively, which you could say at first is very accurate to the story of a Morphine Addict suffering through trauma, hallucinations or perhaps very real memories of mind-mushing horror. But it sounded very dull, and when things pick up I can't really see why the reading wasn't a bit more upset or crazed.

VISUALS: A good attention to detail here for SOME of the environments, they look incredibly period appropriate and accurate when its either indoors or on on of the Ships. Once we start entering the wastelands of the "dream" though things start clashing noticeably, both exiting and very lazy looking. The more lively props of the sea life one the Story really begins as you are "Beached" look great and mushy and wriggling, but the second you look just beyond what is intended the rest of the area looks barren, and not in the way I believe was intended. It seems more like the game is a series of Dioramas on 3D plain rather than a horrible nightmare desert. It is sparsely decorated. The Ascent and Decent of the Mountain are very similar, Rocks seem to jut out and sit along the mountainside without any reason, it looks like a model is just jammed into a map in a game that doesn't look like it even belongs in that environment. The Monolith is appropriately striking and clearly not of this world, but some of the inscriptions and Carvings seem ill-fitting. While some of the hieroglyphics and symbols are very appropriate to what you might expect on some massive ancient pillar, others look like close-up, detailed sketches from some highschoolers sketchbook. Like two separate schools of thought on the art were clashing here, they just don't mesh very well tonally. It would be like having a very intricate portrait next to a cave-painting that was clearly made by-hand. The Beast that leaps from the pool around the monolith is however not close enough to get a good look at but seems just slightly out of place. Toward the end when our protagonist starts pondering on what might be and we get very fun visuals of a great creature dwarfing his lone boat at sea and then a Shot of a legion of creatures slithering towards a not-so-far-off New York City. It's clear there is an eye for some neat stuff here but more time is needed to get these environments up-to-snuff and really immerse players.

CONTENT: Not a lot! There is the option in scenes to investigate some extra details when present but despite taking my time I seem to have missed a majority while still making an effort to find them. Otherwise you can re-read/replay the story once again.

FINAL SCORE: 2.5 out of 5

This game has a LOT of Belkans in it. Show them back to their own Franchise the Hard Way.

For Battletech Fans its a real treat, but for me it's a Treasure I wanna share with anyone I can show. One of the richest fictional universes and tabletop franchises bloom here like never before. Highest recommendations.
