You subconsciously think of it as a measurement of time, so when the number doesn’t fit your mental model of what’s “normal,” it looks broken or fake. But that’s just your perception screwing with you.

Here’s what’s actually going on: that “hours played” element isn’t tracking continuous playtime. It’s not measuring real time. It’s basically a digital abacus — it just adds up activity logs Steam detects. If it sees 3 hours of CS2, 4 hours of Aim Labs, and 2 hours of Phasmophobia, it simply reports “9 hours played.” It doesn’t matter if those sessions overlapped, if they were on separate machines, or even if the games were running idle in the background.
