This game simply was doomed for its longevity from the very beginning. Ubisoft as everyone knows is a very terrible company that loves to implement pitch perfect examples of anti consumer practices into their products and maybe establish an esports scene that will inevitably lead to its slow and agonizing end. I used to love this game and I confidently say that this game holds a special place in my heart. I first played the game in beta on my cousin's xbox all the way back when I was still just a preteen. I got the game myself in operation black ice and played consistently all the way up until operation grim dawn. On console I have roughly 2,500 hours on xbox, (my name on xbox is the same as steam "TylerDoubleU". Look at it if you want to fact check me.)

Set up for failure
This game was launched in a terrible state. Although it has been out for over half a decade you would think that problems that have persisted since launch would be solved, but unfortunately a lot of the problems are literally impossible to solve. The game's engine is the same engine that was intended for the Prince of Persia game on a console, the anti-cheat has never gotten better, servers have gotten better but are still poor, in order to actually play the game at its highest potential you need to unlock most of the operators which take over 200 hours of game time unless if you pay money, the balancing team's solutions to every single meta is to nerf the meta to the ground, and the game has straight up completely lost its identity of being a gritty realistic tactical competitive first person shooter. Almost all of these issues have been a massive problem for literally as long as I remember. I would strongly encourage anyone to be invested in a better title that just so happens to not be a Ubisoft title

Competition
As for competitive shooters rainbow six just does not even compete. There are too many problems fundamentally with the game in order to fully flourish as an esport and a competitive shooter. Quite honestly there are just other games that do what siege tries to do in extremely better execution. Counterstrike is a solid choice that has many factors on siege such as: a reliable anti-cheat, little to no bugs, good servers, community participation such as aim training maps, consistent gunplay, entertaining esports, and better map design. There are other exceptionally superior options as well like something a little closer to siege valorant.

Problems with high elo
In siege no matter the platform you play on you will always run into loss conditions that is straight up out of your control. On console it is mouse and keyboard users when you finally climb to the very top, and of course on PC its littered with cheaters closeted or not in both high elo and highly populated ranks. You simply can not climb to a high elo fairly and by the small chance that you do you will never be #1 because it is always a cheater or someone who exploits the next not fun meta.

Nostalgia
Don't get me wrong when siege works how it is supposed to it is the most fun I will ever have in a game. I plated it way too much as a early teenager and as a kid and even when I play now I still have that feeling every once in a while of trying my absolute hardest at getting better and reaching that rank that I have set as a goal for myself for the past 2 years. Unfortunately though I can't commit to this game even if it is as stable as when I consistently played this game. The only way they can recover this IP and make use of an extremely unique and fun idea is to make a sequel with better servers and an even better engine.
