I'm enjoying this game. The story grabs you by the short hairs from the very beginning. I love the combat. BUT!

1. Kingsroad is NOT a co-op game. The only places you can see other people is when you go to the dungeons and in a few areas, mostly towns. And only some towns, not all of them. You can party up all you want but if you're doing overland PVE, your buddy is not going to be riding beside you. Like, ever.

2. Character Creation: Is GREAT! ... Above the neck. You can't alter your body shape or size at all. You can't have a big, burly assassin. You can't have a small sellsword.

3. You can have one character of each of the three classes, BUT! They'll all have the same name. Make a woman, make a man, it makes no difference. Try to choose a gender neutral name if you're planning on playing different genders.

4. Why do so many NPCs have the same freakin' face?! There's some serious laziness or it was rushed out the door and no one thought to just randomize faces on NPCs. It's like talking to Darrel, his brother Darrel, and his other brother Darrel.

Conclusion:

If you're a solo player and into games with great story and entertaining combat, you'll probably enjoy GoT:KR. It's free so you're out nothing but time if you give it a shot.

If you want a great co-op experience and to play with friends, go find another game. This one will just frustrate you.

For all the fear mongering in many of these negative reviews, I have to say I disagree.

Graphics? Awesome
Fighting and Shooting? Feels natural
Theme? AMAZING!
Unique Enemies? SO many!
Creativity in Enemies? "You mean I can take that guy's briefcase face and SHOOT THINGS WITH IT?!?!"
Cash Shop? So far, all items are cosmetic. It isn't Pay to Win, it's Pay to Look Cool, which is fine with me.
Seasons? Yes. That's the only thing I don't care for but I'm willing to give it a shot and see how I feel when the season changes.

Bottom line? It's an amazing and free game! Don't listen to the naysayers. Give it a try! The worst thing that could happen is that you end up not liking it and instead of being out $60 (as you would for most AAA games), you're just out a couple hours of your time.

Early Access Review
The early access shows, but I'm really enjoying the cycle of play. The grind for mats can be a little long sometimes, but once you know where to find what you're looking for, it gets easier. I've been looking forward to Nightingale since the first announcement and I'm SO glad it's here! Gaslight Fantasy is totally my jam! <3

This is hands down the best D&D video game I've ever played! The storytelling is incredible, and I love the bits of humor thrown in. -chef's kiss- Well done, Larian! <3

As a player of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Dark Alliance II, I can say that despite the perspective shift and functions of abilities, Dungeon's & Dragons: Dark Alliance feels very much like the original games. DD&DA isn't flawless. Far from it. Most mobs can be easily cheesed by Cattie-Brie, and if you're getting your ass kicked, you can climb up or jump down a ledge and catch your breath, heal, say a prayer to the RNG gods, and go back at it. I miss the old days of having the story narrated rather than collecting lore and having to remember to go back and read it to find out what's going on, but by and large the game is entertaining.

Gear grinding isn't that much of a grind and sets are fairly easy to build. Upgrading gear is expensive but sell all the crap you didn't need and you've got a nice income for upgrades (and for upgrading your gems)!

So, there's swearing in the game. And it's pretty try-hard. Hearing Cattie-Brie call the enemy "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" just doesn't come across like it would if she were saying, "Ye bloody lead licking, beard testing, copper fondling son of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ golem!"

I can't see much replayability once you've maxed all four characters so here's hoping the devs will add more at some point.

All in all, the game is entertaining and I'll keep playing it until it isn't anymore.

This is the first time I've been really excited about a looter-shooter. To be fair, it's the first time I really played one. >.> Shush! You were a n00b once, too!

I love the mechanics and the story is entertaining. Play is challenging and will keep you running through mobs for that juicy XP and health!

Do you want to jump out of your skin with fright? Do you want to scream loud enough to make your family or roommates wonder if your room is suddenly full of very angry bees?

Depth is the game for you!

Gathering gold gives divers access to better weapons and tools to fight many different species of shark that elvolve and get stronger as they make kills [ read: eat your legs while you stab them in the face with a diving knife ].

Divers, listen to your heart pound when the sharks get close. Hear the water rush past you as a bullet made of teeth and meat narrowly misses a lunge. Hear the water-muffled screaming and gurgling of your fellow divers as they die, their blood clouding the water around them.

Sharks, watch the divers get distracted as they gather gold. Watch while they swivel and try to find you, their heart thundering in their ears. Avoid their sea mines, and watch out for the sonar!

Team up and pit friends against friends or jump into the deep end and join a group of complete strangers!

On General Player Behavior:

Most players don't typically communicate; they just go do their jobs as best they can. There are trolls but they seem to be rare. From time to time you'll have less mature players who whine about how bad their team is.

What's fun to see is the text window when you join a match with divers and sharks who've recently tangled and one or the other puts, "That's it. We're dead. GG" in a way that's complimentary of their opponents skills. The mass, "CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!" is a beautiful thing to see!

On Cheating/Aim-botting:

I typically play as a diver because 83 games as a shark taught me that my shark-game is pitiful. Out of 1348 games diving [ as of this writing ] I have suspected exactly ONE shark of using some kind of aim-bot.

My usual Depth-partner rolls as a great white and frequently gets frustrated by aim-bots used by divers. Most would suspect that he's just angry that he's getting killed. That isn't the case in this situation. In addition, I've heard the same observation from hundreds of shark-players.

That being said, aim-botting was worse when I first started playing Depth two years ago. I couldn't go three games without seeing angry comments from sharks; now, it's infrequent.

All in all, Depth gives you a lot of bang stick for your buck! There are still plenty of players, even at odd hours of the day. I live a graveyard shift schedule in the US so odds are good that I won't share a language with my teammates (me being pathetically monolingual), but it seems that the language of making sharks explode into chum is a universal one.

Happy swimming!

For years I've played the Elder Scrolls games and wanted a multi-player option. Elder Scrolls Online isn't Skyrim, so try not to expect that, but it is incredibly immersive. And gorgeous. Now that One Tamriel is a thing, the game is that much better!

  • You never outlevel content.
  • You can team with anyone, regardless of level, and it's scaled for everyone. So you can take your shiny new level 1 pure healer and team with your high level friends! They keep you from getting squished, and you buff and heal as you go.
  • Use the DLC to add dimension to your character. Are they an accomplished thief? Can they snatch pretty baubles from the pockets of citizens? Are they an assassin who takes contracts for pleasure or gold? Perhaps they're from the jungles and ruins of Maazzatun, or maybe adopted by orcs after a shipwreck.
  • Crafting isn't difficult to learn, and materials are quite literally, scattered all over Tamriel, waiting to be found or harvested.
  • Code of Conduct: ESO is the first MMO I've played that includes a Code of Conduct. Hate speech is not tolerated. Period. Basically, don't be a d!ick. When you see these insecure little twerps mouthing off in chat, just take a screen shot and use the Report option.
  • Player housing!!! Buy a home with Crowns (in-game cash store) or buy the same home (or cavern!) with gold earned, found, or stolen! Find plans for furnishings and decorate the place to your heart's content!
  • Morrowind expansion coming in June 2017!
  • The community is the most helpful and friendly group of people that I've gamed with since City of Heroes was shut down. Except on free weekends/weeks... Then the trolls come out to play. But even then, it's never as bad as normal, everyday Zone chat on World of Warcraft, and the more mature members of the community tend to shut down the troublemakers. Usually with biting humor to which the offending person or persons responds with, "Yer MOM!" then runs off to pout.

There are two things that I'm really not a fan of in ESO:

  • The Market/s.
    There is no one market.
The current market system is needlessly complex and requires far too much effort to find the things you need.
If the devs would create a market that served everyone, it would make it significantly easier to find what you need, and have the best chance of selling that blue or purple loot. A market players dream!
There is no "Search" function in the markets. You can't search for say, "Ancient Elf Motif." You have to use the drop downs to browse to the general category of motifs and scroll and scroll and scroll and probably not find it. Go to another merchant for another guild, lather, rinse, repeat. It's needlessly tedious and frustrating.
  • Costuming and coloring. You don't get access to the entire color palette from the get-go. You unlock colors as part of Achievement rewards so in the beginning, you have very few, and very ugly, colors to dye your armor.
Crown Store costumes: You have to buy dyes from the Crown Store to color them at all, and one of those devs likes really, really horribad shades of green and likes to mix them with other colors which will ruin a given palate for me.
Coloring in general: Some textures have "baked-in" color that warps the shades of whatever color that you're trying to slap onto your cuirass or robes. Oh, and every "red" that I've unlocked so far is pink on almost everything I put it on. Red is awesome. You won't catch me wearing pink in analog life so I'm sure as heck not going to put it on my toons in a game. :p

I'd also love to see conversation responses have consequences as they have in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Many times the only response/s are things my character would never say. And many more times, I wish I could be snarky. You know, those Altmer and Dunmer could certainly do with having their over-inflated egos taken down a peg or five. ;)

Having your entire group being able to contribute their responses as if it was an actual conversation rather than, "click-click-click-blah-blah-blah. Okay, let's go." People who want to read everything tend to feel rushed by those on the team who don't read the quests. Solution: Try to find three other people who like to read along and get your adventure on!

If you love fantasy but don't care for the cartoony appearance of WoW (or the toxic community there), give Elder Scrolls Online a shot!

Early Access Review
This is an old review from several patches ago so I'm changing my recommendation until I can play the newer content.

I really wanted to love 7 Days, but after multiple game file corruptions after hours and hours of work, I'm done. FunPimps, when you fix the stability issues, let me know. Until then, I'm off to give someone else my money.
