Early Access Review
Well, we tried. Great vibe, great systems. However, I cannot recommend the game in the state it is in. So rarely do I play a tycoon and just drop it altogether because of unpolish, but I will be doing that here. First and foremost, there is zero replayability in this game. The tutorial is not in your face, but is very present your playthroughs. This means that it will stick around for... well, I have 5 hours in the game and I'd say during hour 3 it started to cool down. Important note is that in this tutorial, everything is scripted. No, you cannot skip the tutorial, either

So any time you feel like starting over for a clean slate, tough luck because the gameplay loop will unfold the exact same way until you are about two years in or longer. Fun. You start with predetermined staff that you have no control over, and events will play out the same way each time. This includes events tied to these predetermined characters.

Moreover, the UI is not great. On the surface it looks presentable, but the problems arise with the features attached to it. It is quite inconvenient to execute simple tasks, like firing people. For instance, there is a button in the top right that gives you an overview of your staff. One might think that this overview would let you, y'know interact with them or something. Nope. Instead you have to find their assigned building and go from there.

There is also a plethora of bugs that exist. I am willing to overlook those, but the aforementioned problems I cannot. A tycoon with minimal replayability does not have a whole lot to offer.

@tree The tutorial is the biggest offender then, thankfully they're gonna let us skip it next update

@Annoyingnome Yeah, it was why I couldn't get into their older titles as well. Which is a shame. If they really want to stick to their guns and keep this starting scenario, then at the bare minimum I'd like to be able to at least choose from a set of other starting scenarios as well.

@alucho Well, I went bankrupt early on, so I had to restart. It was due to poor decisions on my end, which is why I omitted difficulty in my review, because I didn't have a real stance on that. Doesn't take much from there to see everything starting the same, even if I choose a different movie to start out with.

Side tangent, the game does not do you any favours here with expensive staff. Remember when I said I cannot fire staff without going into their building? Well, some buildings are inaccessible for a long time, so you really cannot change anything with them. You can hire more staff, but for whatever reason firing them is a big no no. I have to imagine this is an oversight.

Sounds like similar issues I had with their previous games. I don't understand why this company *insists* on linear gameplay and unskippable elements like tutorials or cutscenes. Devs, it's supposed to be a *management* game. You do a great job of nailing the hardest parts about these games, yet block the player from having creative control or freedom. You'd think they would have learned by now, but evidently not. Thanks for your review. I'll reluctantly be avoiding this one.

You only played this game for five hours.. how can you say it doesn't have replayability yet.

Dave Johnson if your criticism about the game is about something you should expect in a early access game, it is dumb
he talking about how the UI is not good and how the tutorial sucks is indeed a good criticism, but saying something like "oh, the game has a bug, so don't buy it" is extremely dumb
not understanding the difference makes me so sad knowing there are people like you around

Replay-ability does have a bit of a hard sell here, I agree, because the beginning is the same every time. All the gameplay after the first 4-5 hours though does at least get some diversity with it.

Scripted events are going to be something I hope they expand upon, especially with their predictable nature. More events are in the roadmap.

Erm, actually, this game is early-access so any criticisms that you have about it are unfair. :steammocking:
On the other hand, all of the positive reviews are completely valid and fair.
Because reasons.
