I didn't even know this genre of game existed, and I did not realize how badly I needed it. This is what open world games should strive to be, in my opinion - dynamic story generator worlds which change in response to your actions but can also change around you, independently. I think there's room to make the AI more robust and intelligent, giving them agency to tend to their own needs, but to an extent they try to do that anyway, and I have to also keep in mind that this game was made in 2013...

A well earned staple in the isometric RPG genre. If you're expecting DnD rules and clear parallels, this might not be the game for you - but for what it is, it's very good. It's worth the money to pay out for it and playable for many hours.

The story is satisfying to chew on, with some twists and turns that pay homage at the end way back to things you learned in the beginning. The act structure is confusing and limiting, as there is no way to expierience content once you've left the area, but encourages you to explore every nook and cranny for all the little secrets.

One hundred and fifty six hours in, and I finished my first playthrough. I usually speedrun games like this to just get to the juicy bits - the fact I had no desire to do such with this game stands as a testament.

It's very much an RPG, but not a DnD parallel like Baldur's Gate. If there are DnD elements, they're handled on the backend, where you can't see it. I came into it looking for a DnD style game like Baldur's Gate and was disappointed in that respect, but I still think it was absolutely worth the play.

There's also a lot of replayability for things you missed the first time around, for alternative endings, for playing with different origins or just to play with friends or mods - personally, I've gotten my money's worth several times over and am content with the story. Definitely worth picking up.
