Note: the game ban on my profile is actually from a really terrible early access game that has some pretty notoriously corrupt and abusively toxic game developers. The game itself has been in early access hell for over 10 years (I was pretty much a teen/ young adult by the time I was banned). How it hasn't been taken down from steam yet I have no idea.

That, compared with the numerous disturbing scandals surrounding that game, and the near constant unprofessional attitude (to say the least) the game's devs conveyed with no improvement, that it is no wonder I was so easily and wrongfully banned from it. With that being said, I no longer associate with the game or its fandom in any way, shape, or form (the fandom being more toxic than league of legends). It's better to just let the game, and my past with it, fade into obscurity.

GARRYSMOD SERVER INFO

I am currently co owner and administrator of a Garry's mod server my friends and I are building, as well as a discord server called Doomer's Playground(18+). Progress has been slow cause it turned out that someone that used to be a part of our team was sabotaging us. Now that they are gone, progress should be way faster now. Name is subject to change cause we're currently spit balling different server name suggestions.

SHINE LIGHT INTO DARKNESS

I've been grieving since December of 2024 due to a very special and important close friend that left me before last Christmas. Their racist and manipulative girlfriend not only exploits her, but her and her friends also harass me and my friends (as you can see in the comments section below). Having no way of contacting my former friend, I cannot fix the situation.

Because of this, I apologize if I sound melancholic and depressed around you. Please be patient with me as I try to heal from this, as I am learning to move on in new ways with the friends and family that love me, and to bury the awful people that hurt me in the past with faded memories.

Update: February 2026. After finally surrounding myself with friends that care about me and support me, after being alone for so long, I have finally gotten over my former closest friend. I tried to pull her out of a chronically online life multiple times in the past to help her, but I have learned to let go, to not waste my energy of those that do not care about me, and to focus on putting the needs of my friends, and myself, over those that don't love me anymore.

For the first time in years, the future looks bright.

3.1 Hours played

Ive been long anticipating this game since Ive been playing garrysmod since I was a pre-teen (now 29 as of writing this) and despite all the negativity I have heard, I was excited to try out a similar game in the new Source 2 engine. Most of this review will only focus on the sandbox aspect of the game.

Heres the rundown.

Pros

1: The graphics: They are really stunning on some of the maps remade from garrysmod. Maps like Construct, and RP_Downtown are really good. My favorite map so far is the Vaporwave Mall, which was right up my alley.

2: Sandbox Mechanics: There isn't much, but its good amount of tools and props for a game that just released to the steam store. I'm hoping more will be added soon.

3: wide map choice: As mentioned before, theres ALOT of maps to choose from, most likely made by players before the game got released. There are many different types of maps from sandbox themed maps, to nature ones, to cities, to even wacky and comical ones too.

The Cons

1: Lack of weapons and NPCS: There is a surprising lack of weapons to use or NPC's to choose from. Some animals like birds and farm animals would be nice or instead of the player character model turned into either a scientist or hostile npc. One of the fun things about Garrysmod was that there were alot of NPC's to choose fun. There seems to be no weapons besides phys gun, tool gun, and camera. (If they are there in sandbox mode somewhere, please let me know!). (UPDATE: ok there are some more weapons, However it still isnt much)

2: Lack of player model accessibility: Despite my choosing the realistic human character and customizing the hair and clothing on him before creating a private sandbox session. The game, for whatever reason, reverts me back into a sausage person. I have no idea if this is a glitch, a feature, or if i'm missing something. If there is a way to change my character in session back into a realistic human please let me know. I dont find the sausage people appealing at all and would rather not play as them.

3: Missing mechanics: The water in construct doesn't have an underwater overlay, I cant seem to change ragdoll bodygroups, and certain tools (camera, turret, etc) are missing. You would think that despite the game being worked on for a long time that these would eventually be added, especially since garrysmod modders can easily make their own tools, but I guess not.

4: Over-monetization: Possibly the biggest annoyance in modern videogames is the microtransactions and over-monetization of features in a game that you have already bought. This would be acceptable in games like team fortress 2, but I feel like this game is trying wayyy too hard to copy other videogames like roblox and Recroom (the latter soon to be shut off completely in june due to devs losing money despite the monetization). This would also be acceptable to me if the player models were actually decent to look at and not ugly, which would give me incentive to spend money on them. But I have seen paper and cardboard hats go up to hundreds of dollars (wut), which means that theres (from what Ive heard and seen) quite alot of grifters and crypto bros in this game.

5: AI slop: Outside of sandbox mode, theres quite alot of gamemodes that are just completely AI generated. The reason why I dont support AI generated content at all is because they steal Artwork and jobs from other people, and the datacenters that run AI are really efficient at destroying the environment. Luckily however I have heard from someone else that facepunch will deal with the AI generated content soon so it shouldn't be a long lasting issue.

Conclusion

Do I recommend this game? For now yes I do. S&box just released so Im going to give it a fair chance and see how the game is updated and further developed. Even though I do not agree that the game should have microtransactions (money shouldnt be a motivation, but interest and hobby should be instead, since most Garry'smod modders that are obsessed with garrysmod make mods and playermodels for free.), I do on the otherhand play similar games that do, so I am willing to tolerate them as long as I can use better playermodels.

Heres hoping that Better mods, maps, cosmetics, and addons come out to make the game even better <3
