It’s not good, frankly I wouldn’t have played it if it haden’t been included in the $100 ruse cruise I fell for at release. Frankly I doubt Bethesda has it in them anymore.

TL;DR 4/10 Overall
The gunplay feels good for the first few hours then you get over the threshold and combat both planetside and in space becomes trivial and to me annoying.
The characters feel like cardboard cutouts and there is a significant reduction in the overall radiance and lively-ness of the world from previous BGS titles. None of the shopkeepers or NPCs seems to have a sleep/eat/socialize schedule ala Skyrim or Fallout 4. This is far more akin to Morrowind NPCs.
There are a ton of systems that are undercooked, under-utilized or otherwise unconnected. Outpost building is disconnected from shipbuilding is disconnected from character progression and combat.
If you get this game, take my advice completely ignore the outpost building unless you get pleasure from it in and of itself. Its a waste of your skills and worse your time as it will yield you no benefit.

First off lemme start by saying this. This is the most mechanically perfect entry in the Metal Gear Series to date. The gunplay is fun, fluid and rewarding, the movement scheme is so perfect it might have ruined previous entries in the series for me. At least in terms of how they play.

However,

Story wise (which is the reason I play MGS at least) this game is a complete and utter disappointment over half of the story is missing, or just straight up cut. Major plot points are set up but never resolved and while the ones that are, end in my opinion very well. However this is chapter 1 which is excellent and took me about 35 hours to finish and your led to believe that this is Chapter 1 in a 3 part series.

Warning spoilers without spoilers, but believe me I wish someone had warned me about this.

Once you hit Chapter 2 be prepared to play through the worst sections of Chapter 1 all over again on a harder difficulty! Be prepared for plot points and characters to be introduced then promptly brushed away. Questions won't be answered, antagonists plans just end abruptly and rare is the mission that ends with either a satisfying cutscene or any cutscene at all. Usually you get a very unsatisfying blue screen and another radio play. The story is told almost entirely via cassette tapes more or less a mediocre radio play, and in my opinion as someone who listened to most of the Cassette tapes its all too forgettable. Which is a shame cause I for one really thought Kojima was onto something different, weird and exciting by the end of chapter 1.

This game is half finished, some of the later missions are strangely difficult out of the blue as if they didn't have time to properly playtest the damn game. A whole third area and third chapter is setup in chapter 1 & 2 but is entirely absent. The sad incomplete remnants of that third chapter can be found here on youtube SPOILER - Metal Gear Solid V - Episode 51

There are no outstanding "metal gear moments" like in MGS 3 when you fought that crazy spider guy the fear, or again in MGS 3 when Volgin blows Snakes cover by crotch checking him. I know that's a weird one but cmon its a Metal Gear moment if there ever was one.

TL;DR Don't waste your money on a half completed game, go buy Witcher 3 or some whiskey or hell buy some crazy japanese porn cause the story is way more satisfying.

Mechanics: 10/10
Story: 4/10
Multiplayer: 7/10

Okay, so I've played about 6 hours of this game and let me say off the bat I do intend on playing at least a few hours more. I enjoy real quick and twitchy shooters like this one and when this one works it works.
The main issue I have with it, other than the fact you have to pay for damn near everything on what feels like an alacarte basis, is the level design.
Some of these maps just funnel players down a path where it is too easy for one side to lock down entrances and flanks and just slaughter one team more or less at their spawn. I'm sure it will get solved over time with some more iteration on the levels but for now it can be extraordinarily frustrating to play.

Final gripe, no party system for doing a quick match. Its very annoying to get into a game and then have to cross my fingers my friends will get in, in time for them to join my team. I haven't reached the competitive ranks yet and once I do I'm sure things will get better. But for now I've had too many games playing against the people I want to play with to enjoy this title.

over all 6/10 would play again after a dozen or so patches.
