This pains me to give this kind of review because I did enjoy this game but it does have some flaws.
Was this worth my time and $40?

Short answer: Not in the slightest.

Long answer:
This game had a lot of potential and a lot of material to use as it had the entire dbd universe to work with, but all they seemed to do was squander this potential. I wish I could say better things about this game, but there just isn't much good to say about it.

*Disclaimer* From this point on I might spoil some things if you plan to buy it yourself (Why would you do that?)

The start of the game seemed cool with you being a cop looking for a missing kid in a steel mill. You had this random, drunk, night guard NPC behind you at some point and you didn't know if they were good or not. I kept checking over my shoulder to make sure he wasn't doing anything and it felt like a real horror game as I was nervous he was going to back stab me. Then we got to the fight scene with the infamous Frank Stone... ): How can you call a game "The casting of Frank Stone" and then kill him in the prologue?! I know he comes back as a ghost, but it was a stupid enemy that you would either film to death or you let him kill you. Where's the sense of fear and danger like in the prologue? This game losses every horror aspect after the prologue and I'm genuinely upset about it. The last part where he comes back to life was the only cool part, but only for the chase music and the cool way they introduced him back by killing someone is a very gruesome way.

Next, this game was clearly trying to go for a "pick and choose your own adventure" type of game as it allowed you to make different choices to experience "different" outcomes. But that is nowhere near what happened in-game. This game had multiple things to say, do, or even fail to change things, but whats the point of these choices if it all leads to the same ending. If your choices don't matter then that's just lazy for these types of games.
If you've played this game you must know about the campfire ending ):< as that seems to be 95% of the endings in the god forsaken game. You cannot take a scene with the same dialog plus a few different dbd characters next to a campfire and call it a different ending. What is the point of replaying a game to experience the "different endings" if most of the endings are the same? There was also a stupid part where you had to get a new camera and no matter how much money you brought ($10 or $20) the price tag would match it, so your decision just straight up doesn't matter.
The top three tags of Choices matter, horror, and multiple endings do match much this game at all.

Top all of this off with the clunky movement of this game where you seem to bump into any and every object you walk past. This game, with all its bugs, crap same endings, pointless decisions, and clunky gameplay makes this game feel unfinished.

But, that doesn't mean all of it was bad. Some of the dbd lore/Easter eggs of different killer's back stories were cool and I felt that they established the idea of a world where the entity exist very well. It was exciting seeing these ending, choices, and little snippets of lore in the game, but here's the problem, that excitement only happens the FIRST time you see it and you could always see these cool things without spending dime through Youtube.
So a "pick and choose" game with basically the same endings means it has no repeatability, making this a bad game when compared to games with similar gameplay like Until Dawn, Detroit become human, and any Telltale game.

I wish they did better with this game as it had so much potential, but since they didn't use that potential, all they made was a crap, fan service of a game that isn't worth anything close to the $40 or the 8 hours i spent playing it.

You really want to see the gameplay? Just watch it on Youtube. Trust me, its basically the same thing.

masterpiece of a game. Its the most souls-like game you can get that's not made by fromsoft. The story, combat, and the enemies are felt amazing with the soundtrack, mainly the records, being incredible to listen to. I can't wait for the upcoming DLC and any new souls-likes in the future.

dont play this game unless you want an easy game, there is no challenge because most of the player are on mobile. but it is nice to win a battle royale game almost every round.

this is a fun and exciting game that i love to play with friends, i would suggest you get one other person to play this with or it will take a while to find a game as shark (you find diver matches quick). other than that i love this game and wish more people would play it.
