Left 4 dead is a timeless masterpiece and a relic that will go down in history as one of the best and most important games of all time.

At first glance, Left 4 dead may look like just a typical zombie co-op game, but it is more than that. There is so much about Left 4 dead that it does great. The survivors are one of the most iconic characters in any video game, to the point that even people who have never played Left 4 dead know who these people are. These include an army veteran who hates stairs, a college girl who thinks birds are ♥♥♥♥♥, an office worker who is addicted to pills, a biker dude who hates everything except vests, an ex-conman who loves tits, a news reporter who loves Francis for some reason, a gym coach who is addicted to cheeseburgers and a cowboy mechanic who loves talking about his buddy Keith.

The same can be said about the infected. These include a hoodie jacket and sweat shirt wearing bastard, tongue guys, fat/roly-poly goiter men, gigantic one arms, leaping on your back ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, green acid-spewing long necks, super big freaking zombies and crying ladies. The survivors and infected all have a personality, identity and charm to them that makes them so likeable and memorable for everyone.

The environment and level design is also top-tier. They are fully detailed and are designed in a way that it tells a story without having to write it out in words, a game design that is rarely ever achieved in modern games today. The sound design is also amazing, when you’re fighting hordes of zombies or fighting boss infected, it sets the mood and tone of the game so well.

If you're wondering whether you should get L4D1 or L4D2, I would probably say just get L4D2, since all of the L4D1 content like maps and characters are available in L4D2 as well, and L4D2 also has much more content, along with plenty of community mods to play with. But personally I would recommend getting both games, as L4D1 also has its own charm and if you're interested to see how the L4D series started.

The community however may not really be the best, especially when playing with random people in certain game modes like Versus. Some of them are very ‘unwelcoming’ especially to new players so if you’re a new player then you might not want to play online yet, at least until you have better experience with the game. The modding community however is amazing and is still active even today, creating thousands of god-like mods that make the game even more fun to play.

Overall, the Left 4 dead series is something that you MUST play at least ONCE in your life. whether it be L4D1 or L4D2.
