This game is difficult to review. I won't touch on art, music, any of that stuff. You can see it on the store page, it's phenomenal.
The game is really good at times! There have been moments and areas that were fun, engaging, and deeply moving. Character sidequests are touching.
But in order to get to all that stuff you have to be prepared to deal with frustration. I think the popular discourse has already touched on the damage being a bit too high, so I'll ignore it.
No, you need to deal with frustrations like
"Oh, this boss has no lore and just summons additional enemies repeatedly. I'm not even rewarded for killing the summons quickly, it just calls in more"
"Oh, I need to go farm more ammo for my tools before I can attempt this boss again"
"Oh, I need to watch a 30 second unskippable cutscene before accessing this area again"
"Oh, this beautiful location is just four enemy gauntlets in a row, all in the same boring rectangular rooms"
"Oh, I need to go find every single flea in the game to upgrade my weapon again (which is mandatory at this stage because enemies have insane health!)"
I'm in act 3 now and I'm realizing - I'm just not enjoying this game. I can't find any drive to finish it because the sense of discovery is (mostly) gone, you're not getting new areas that actually connect together, or making those proper metroidvania style discoveries. You're just repeatedly bashing your head against bosses in a way that's seemingly designed to invoke every frustrating game design decision made in the last 10 years.
I want to stress here - the issue is not with the difficulty. The most fun sections of the game are the intense platforming pieces, or the well designed but difficult boss fights. The issue here is the baffling design decisions that makes me just want to turn the game off and do something else.

I wish Torn Banner loved this game as much as I love this game. It's good, but everything here is all that there will be, so you gotta take the bad too. Funny voicelines though. NO MORE TAXESSSSS, FREEDOMMMM FOR THE BONDSMENNNN

This game takes every good mechanic from the past 20 years of movement shooters and puts it into one game. And it works. It works so well.

I beat all the dev-made content in the game in less than 2 hours. Only purchase if you know you'll be interested in it years down the line.

Honestly, I cannot recommend this game. It took me 2.3 hours to get through the entire story. Those 2.3 hours were a blast, exploring new environments, finding new puzzles, figuring out how to get past guards, but it was over all too quick. And the end of the story leaves me with no real desire to go back and replay it. This game really could've benefited from more assassinations. You do two (2) kills and then the game pretty much ends.

I understand that part of the fun of these games is going back and replaying it in different ways, however I have no real desire to do that because of where the story left me, and how simplistic the stealth actually is. It's only halfway through, where enemies get night vision goggles, do you start to feel any real challenge, and it's only at the end, where they get detection circles and you can't sneak up, did I really have to think about how to go about this. For standard guards it's just distract/kill, distract/sneak past, terrorize/sneak past. The final enemies are the best ones, and they're used incredibly sparingly.

If you are somebody who loves to replay games and go for collectibles, I recommend this. If you aren't that person, and are looking for a story, I cannot recommend this.

This game is absolutely amazing. It outclasses Skyrim in almost every aspect. A combat system that isn't mash R1, better perk trees, and immensely better writing. The only con I can think of is that it can get monologuey at times - but I didn't mind that so much because every single one of them was twisting and turning my mind at every point. I love this game to death and if you enjoyed Skyrim but wanted something more you have to play this.

Don't bother reading reviews as they have spoilers. If your okay with some of the subjects in the game that they warn you about, I highly recommend playing it blind.

This game is terrible for anybody who wants to pick it up for 2 bucks and play it. First off.

-No tutorial
You can spend your first ten minutes figuring out how to boost jump, bunny hop and air strafe in a deathmatch because the devs can't be bothered to tell you.

-No "beginner" games
Completely inaccessible to people who want to learn the game. Every deathmatch game has three xXx_Mlg_Noscopers_xXx and a bunch of other semi decent or complete noob players. Those three people proceed to topscore the match, ending it in around 4 minutes because of the retarded "Score limit" that allows them to do so. Because nobody plays competitive mode and these people can't be bothered to wait the five or so minutes it takes to find a match, they ruin games for newer players.

-Poor level design
The maps in this game don't fit the game. Everything is very low to the ground, so breaking line of sight is almost impossible because of boost jumping. Giant firing ranges where you can get sniped from the other side of the map.

-Terrible afk system
After every match, the game asks you to type in three chosen letters to make sure you're not afk. This sounds good at first, but the problem is that sometimes it glitches out, not allowing you to type in letters and then you get kicked from the game. It's very frustrating.

TL;DR Do not buy this game unless you are already extremely good at games that are exactly this game.
