A surprise hit that keeps getting better, I honestly almost skipped it, but I am glad I didn't.

For weeks, I kept avoiding Bellwright. My algorithm was obsessed, it popped up in every Steam recommendation, TikTok feed, and YouTube search I made for similar games. Something about the early videos just didn't click with me, and I wrote it off.

Finally, during the 2025 Winter Steam Sale, I saw one last video that piqued my interest. I decided to pull the trigger, thinking, "I'll just refund it if it's not for me."

34 hours later, and that refund is the last thing on my mind. I'm completely hooked.

What Makes It Great?

Bellwright perfectly blends survival, base-building, and strategic village management with a satisfying sense of progression. It starts as a fight for survival and gradually evolves into leading a growing settlement against external threats. The core loop of gathering, crafting, building, and defending is incredibly engaging.

It also has a supportive community and a promising future.

I’m playing completely vanilla on default settings, and while some mechanics can be a little confusing at first, I never felt stuck. Why? The official Discord community is fantastic. Every time I’ve asked a question, I’ve gotten a helpful response within seconds. That kind of support makes learning the game a breeze.

The most exciting part? Knowing the game is still in active development and "not even near finished." The developers are clearly dedicated, and the promise of more content just adds to the value. What I've already played feels substantial and polished, and the roadmap has me genuinely excited to see where it goes.

Verdict: Highly Recommended.

If you're on the fence like I was, give it a shot. Bellwright took me by surprise and has become one of my favorite recent discoveries. It’s a deep, satisfying experience now, and its potential for growth makes it an easy game to invest in and look forward to.

I was really annoyed at the start but the more I play and understand the more I like the game.

Let me be clear: Foxhole, and by extension its medieval sibling Anvil Empires, have completely captured my gaming heart. They are more than games; they are living, breathing, and often frustrating worlds entirely built by players. If you're looking for a typical shooter or RTS, look elsewhere. This is something else entirely.

The most common mistake a new player can make is to grab a rifle and head for the front line, never to return. If you do this, you're just a cog in a machine you don't understand. The true game is everything behind that.

The Logi Player who spends four real-world hours shipping a precious load of artillery shells to the front, only to have their truck stolen the moment they unload by a Private who just needed a ride to the fight.

The Engineer who designs a Bunker Base so elaborate, it requires its own dedicated supply line and a 50-person Discord channel to coordinate, only to see it all vanish in a green mist of enemy gas two days later.

The Scrapper who finds a strange zen in hitting rocks with a sledgehammer for hours, becoming the unsung, literal bedrock foundation of the entire war effort. (No, really. Every bullet was his rock first.)

This game is a rollercoaster. One moment, you're in a serious, 30-player armored tank column, pushing through enemy lines under a hail of artillery—a moment of pure gaming brilliance. The next moment, you're watching a naval invasion fail because someone forgot to check the fuel gauge, or you're being run over by a friendly tank because you were standing in the road.

Foxhole is a beautiful, chaotic, and deeply rewarding experience that demands you to be more than just a soldier. It's a society simulator disguised as a war game. Learn the game, embrace the grind, and you'll find yourself hooked on a world where your individual actions, no matter how small, genuinely matter.

Great game, wish they would come out with some more fresh start servers that didn't reset. Ended up going private server route but this game is amazing

Great game, I wish I would have gotten into it sooner. I got it on a discount sale and it was worth it. Can't wait for the new version to come out.

Great game for Beta... I can see many good things coming. Hopefully no bad or greedy decisions from the company or devs.

I like the game, wish they turned it into a MMORPG like old school RuneScape
