I used to hate this game, back when I played it in 2014/2015. I didn't want to give it a chance after the confusion that was the starting story and gameplay elements.

Surprisingly, after giving it a try again years later, I found that not only is this game incredibly fun and immersive, but it would become my number one mmo, after trudging through sea after sea of Korean MMOs and Free to Play but Pay to Win garbage. A community that encourages the newer players to enjoy their experience, and doesn't push for optimal parse or to force you into a role you cannot play.

I will say, the weakest link of this game is the start, A Realm Reborn can still be a bit annoying and slow to start, however this game starts to really set in motion pieces that ARR set up at the end, and once Heavensward begins it almost feels like a completely new game. At level 50, every job really start to feel like a real class than just a going through 49 levels of tutorial, and every subsequent job that releases in the expansion has their kit already so you don't need to go through that slog with them.

If you gave FFXIV a try before, and hadn't made it past A Realm Reborn, I highly recommend giving it a second try. Try all the jobs, find your niche, and you'll have an experience some would wish they could forget to experience it again.

The best game to not play and do something else.

This game brings back some good memories of older times, and really plays well the balance of collection versus story. If you're looking for a good 3D platformer with fun gameplay and hilarious characters, well look no further.
I'd argue that it could even beat out certain mario games, and from a game that didn't look like it would even get finished, that's some high praise.

Yes. Yes, you do have to play the other games to understand the story. No. No, I'm not going to explain the story to you.

Do not buy the game alone. To experience everything it has to offer, make sure to get Half-life 2 : episodes 1 & 2, Half-life 2, Counter Strike: Source, and any other source game. Trust me.
