I was dreading playing this one, but in my efforts to play all the mainline games before Requiem, I had to.

At first, I was hating it. The controls are absolute jank, there's this yellow p*** filter (relic of the times) smeared all over it, and in one of the early missions I was absolutely annoyed at how I had to ride out a wave of boring zombies.

But after a few chapters, it clicks. The controls aren't too bad, and controlling the AI is nowhere near as bad as people complained about. What surprised me most is almost always, someone joins my game within 2-3 minutes and you get a rockin' partner on the go.

The worst part of it are the on-rail sections. 2-3 is particuarly awful, especially how they recycle a RE4 boss in the most obnoxious way possible. I seriously rolled my eyes when the camera paused and said "Shoot the weak points."

But I'm seriously enjoying my time with the game, and I think it needs more defenders. Nowhere near the masterclass of the first four games, but it knows what it is and it changes the formula up well.

If any game in the series deserves a good remake, it's RE5.
