Really disappointing, as someone who has clearly played this game a lot, to see it go downhill the way it has. The game's moderation is awful and even has enabled trolling/bad behavior, and I even heard a moderator the other night say how he's getting tired of the game. The community is filled with people who seem miserable and flame other people who make mistakes (nobody's perfect) or accidentally skip their turns.
I really wanted the similar nostalgic experience of a warm community that was the original Arcanists, but you're not going to find that community here. Sure, some of the new spellbooks are interesting, but it doesn't outweigh the sheer amount of toxicity you'll encounter in the game's atmosphere. And this isn't a few games, but the general feel of the game unless you play with close friends. People are gradually quitting, the game is dying, and I don't think I'll be back anytime soon.
I believe the developer is focused on a new card game which seems fun, so I'll probably play that a bit. But as for Arcanists; it's neglected and filled with immature, harmful people who constantly joke about everything in an aggressive and condescending way.
The game is filled with, as other reviews stated, bullies and elitists who are not friendly to new players. If you're new, you're shamed. If you're not new, you're taunted if you make one wrong move.
Developers, take note and actually do something substantial to combat the negativity on this game, or else the heart and soul of this game will be consumed by the unnecessary parasitical voices that disrupt whatever peace is left here.
However, I doubt the staff will do much to change it (or even acknowledge the neglect in moderating) since they're focused on another game. Many other players have shared this sentiment that I've played with for a very long time now.
It's sad, but all good things eventually come to an end. Do better, Arcanists Staff Team. Do better.

I wholeheartedly support Crystal Dynamics, and their efforts on pursuing more projects with this updated new Lara Croft, who is extremely dimensional as a character, and who develops overtime, in an understanding way. Tomb Raider sets a beautiful origin story for Lara Croft. This game has tons of content, and tons of lore for people who are in love with history. There's definitely a nice element to the relics and documents you pick up, because you normally wouldn't get as much content without picking them up.

PROS:
  • Beautiful graphics, amazing storytelling.
  • Is extremely unique. Yes, Uncharted is a much similar game, but Tomb Raider is available on most platforms, and sets an amazing cinematic scene.
  • It's $4.99 on most of the sales! It's almost a steal.
  • Character development is seen with Lara, and you can definitely grow to love her as a character.

CONS:
  • Combat isn't as nice as it could be. Dodging is not exactly useful (in my opinion) There's too much of it. More tomb raiding and exploring would be nice, with better constructed puzzles.
  • Multiplayer is terrible, and dead. It tries to be a different genre. It improved with the second game's Endurance, but the multiplayer is still lackluster and unoriginal here.
  • Actions don't really have consequences. It would be nice, being a story game, to have multiple outcomes to different situations. Whatever you do will really only come to one resolution.
  • You don't really build a strong emotional bond with a lot of the characters. Most of Lara's team is seemingly one-dimensional, and Sam is pretty much Lara's closest companion.

Overall, this is an absolutely wonderful game that deserves all of the praise it gets. It's cheap, and definitely different. If you were looking for hidden treasure, you sure found it. But not really hidden, because Lara is pretty popular. But still, treasure. She's a gem.
