Frustrating, Bug-Filled, and Now a Cash Grab – Avoid Until Improvements Are Made

I really wanted to like Ranch Simulator. I spent over 42 hours trying to make it work, hoping the issues would get ironed out, but it’s just not worth it anymore. It started off somewhat enjoyable, but as time went on, the more the problems piled up. Now, I’m stepping away from the game, and unless significant updates are made, I have no plans to return.

Let’s start with the technical side. If you use a dual monitor setup like I do, this game can’t handle it. The lag is unbearable, and my GPU usage shoots up by 30-40%. It’s not even a graphically demanding game, yet somehow it runs horribly, especially if you have more than one screen. My system, which can handle games with far higher specs, started full-on crashing freezing, then restarting every time I tried to play Ranch Simulator. I’ve troubleshot everything, and there’s nothing wrong with my computer, so it’s clear the problem lies with the game itself. Honestly, I’m worried it might cause damage if I keep playing, so for the sake of my hardware, I’ve had to step away.

But it’s not just the technical issues; the bugs are unbearable. Some are game-breaking. My dog and cat have died twice, even though I’ve made sure they have food. My cows have given birth, and poof the newborn calf vanishes into thin air. Animals disappear from the farm and trailers, making it nearly impossible to build a functional ranch. And don’t even get me started on the car it doesn’t stop properly driving around becomes a frustrating chore because of it.

I really did try to find fun in Ranch Simulator. It has potential, especially in short bursts with friends, but that’s where the enjoyment ends. The mechanics are quirky, but they quickly become shallow. It’s a game that feels like it was made with streamers in mind something fun to showcase for a few hours, but it doesn’t offer long-term satisfaction. If you’re someone who feels the need to try every farming sim out there, maybe this game will scratch that itch especially if it’s on sale but for the price it’s asking, it’s not worth it.

This is not the developer’s first game, and it shows. Toxic Dog has released other titles that suffer from the same lack of polish and care. At this point, it feels like they’re just churning out games with minimal effort. After waiting over two years for updates during its early access phase, Ranch Simulator has barely improved. The most recent updates have been incredibly disappointing. Instead of fixing the game, Toxic Dog and publisher Excalibur Games decided to release a paid DLC that locks features behind a paywall that should’ve been part of the base game. That’s right a paid DLC for content that should have been in the game from the start.

This move is not just frustrating it feels like a slap in the face to anyone who supported the game early on. Instead of focusing on improving the core experience, the developers are doubling down on DLCs and cash grabs. The worst part? Criticizing this decision on their forums or social media has led to people being silenced or banned. This is not how you foster a healthy community, and it’s even worse when it feels like your feedback doesn’t matter at all.

Ranch Simulator was never a complete game. It had potential, but that potential is now officially dead. It’s a broken game with performance issues, repetitive gameplay, and a monetization strategy that leaves a sour taste in your mouth. I backed the game in early access hoping to see it grow, but instead, we’ve been left with a shallow, unfinished product.

It’s not a "Ranch Simulator." It’s a meat and cheese production simulator, plain and simple. The name is misleading, and the game’s current state shows that the developers have no real interest in fleshing out the ranching or farming aspects. If you’re looking for a true farming simulation, this is not it.

PS: The Building mode is bad too, please for the love of everything add snap or grid building to the game so people don't have to spend hours trying to get their buildings straight. The entire building system needs to be redone and updated to 2025 standards.

DO NOT BUY unless you enjoy paying extra for a game that was never finished, and likely never will be.
