This game uses generative AI in place of real artists, which I do not support. I unfortunately bought it and played many hours before realising so I cannot refund it.

First Civ7 campaign completed successfully. Great game. I give it 7/10 in its current state.

The UI is lacking polish and good testing to be fair, I saw several spelling errors, some of the lines/arrows don't align, and some event options have their flavour text the wrong way round. None of it is game-breaking though. One incredible upgrade from civ6 though is the smooth turns. There's barely any frame drop when you go next turn any more, the first few turns I made I didn't notice!

I think the ages are really cool, and I like the way you transition from one to the next. That said, the modern age seems to end at the end of the industrial era, like I'd say the game ends in the mid 20th century which feels a bit weird. Also, it noone gets achieves one of the victory modes, the game just ends and everyone loses it seems. It feels to me like the "modern age" should be called "industrial age", and there should be another "space age" at the end. Maybe this will be an expansion.

I much prefer the way settlements work in this game over civ6. Settlement expansion feels much more impactful and interesting rather than a builder-slog that can happen in civ6 to me. That said, they do a much poorer job of telling the player how adjacency bonuses work and what they are, and the districts all look very similar to each other, so it's really hard to know where things are in one settlement to the next.

So yeah. 7/10 for me. More polish and UI improvements could easily make it an 8, a fourth age on the end would make it a 9, and some more content would make it a 10. I'm glad I bought the founders edition, cos I'll definitely be wanting to play with a few expansions.

This is what a Total War game should be like.

It's nice to play for a few hours per map, but beyond 3 hours and beyond 50000 population, the simulation breaks down, and its not enjoyable.
