Early Access Review
Initially I gave this game a positive review and hoped that future updates would resolve the many issues I glossed over. Since then, many more guns have been added, a few maps and 2 new heroes, but many of the core issues persist: janky movement, lobbies mostly consisting of NPC teammates, a paid Battle Pass despite the game already being a £25 purchase (if you bought the Supporter Edition) and, to top it all off, Combat Cat has started using generative AI in their marketing. I REALLY do want this game to become better as I love the core concept, but I cannot currently recommend it.

The platforming is tight and fun with a heavy emphasis on momentum, forcing you to take a step back, visualise the route, then put it into action. The gameplay is fun, the world is charming and the visuals remind me of staying up late playing Spirit Tracks on my DS. My only concern with this demo is how little fanfare there is for collecting coins and fish, which would not be an issue if it were not for the hidden vault that requires you to collect EVERYTHING to open it with no way to track down the last ~50 coins. Hopefully the final game is less strict with its 100% requirements or at least gives you a tracker.

EDIT: Since the original review, the developers have added a tracker! I think my save file is bugged since I cannot find the last 10 scales, but it gives me an excuse to replay the game so I am not complaining. One thing to note is that the game can be very punishing at times; falling into a pit will put you back where you last stood, but most areas are vertical, causing you to fall to a previous part of the level, meaning you need to replay a chunk of the level to get back to where you were. This might irk you initially, but it can be satisfying to blitz through a previous area with the knowledge you have gained.

One thing people don't praise OMORI enough for is its mysteries and symbolism. Throughout the game, you'll find things in the world that feel weird, out of place, occurring frequently enough to make you question "what does this mean?" The game shows you just enough information to start connecting the dots but refrains from giving you the whole picture until the very last moment, creating this constant loop of thinking you have everything figured out, only for a new snippet of dialogue to shatter everything you knew. Suddenly, that random curiosity in the world becomes this emotionally charged landmark and re-contextualises everything that came before it.

I am not an RPG fan, but I would be lying if I said this wasn't one of the best games I have ever played.

I brute forced the daycare puzzle

For real though, Indigo Park is a promising demo with a good atmosphere, nice music and amazing 2D animation for Rambley. That being said, Indigo Park also falls victim to the "walking sim" trap that is so common for indie horror games. Walk here, walk there, press button, walk in that direction. Really hoping that we see some more in-depth mechanics going forward.

Ultrakill is one of the, if not the best single player shooters I have ever played. The movement is snappy, all of the weapons are useful and the soundtrack perfectly compliments the insane, crazy and yet weirdly serious tone of the game. Hakita really went out of their way to not only make the game consistently fun, but also re-playable through secrets, challenges and difficulty options that change more than just the enemies' health pool.

If I had to give one criticism of Ultrakill, I would say that some of the secrets are too secret. Without spoiling any of them, some secrets within missions aren't listed and are found / obtained through obtuse methods. Sometimes this works out in Ultrakill's favour, creating a satisfying payoff when you stumble across it on your third run through a mission, but others will have you reading a guide in frustration. I would not be surprised if some players have "finished" the current game without finding even 10% of the hidden areas.

Other than that, Ultrakill is a 9/10 in it's current state, and likely a 10/10 once the final act releases. £20 for Ultrakill is practically theft; it should be £30 at least.

Flinthook is a solid roguelike that takes inspiration from Metroid and The Binding of Isaac to create a fun and fast paced adventure. The graphics and music are beautiful and the gameplay is entirely unique. While the story is a little lacking, at least in terms of relevance to the gameplay, that by no means bogs down Flinthook. Just be sure to use the "pro" controls setting if you're using a controller.

0/10 Pickles were constantly unavailable, even though I could afford them. Absolutely unplayable. Would not recommend.

Okay, I haven't played much, but people seem to be forgetting the fact that the ENTIRE DLC was hyped because of the modding tools. People are whining from the lack of content, but in a month, we could have an entire workshop full of new and interesting mods that spice up the game and give it more life! So stop crying over insignificant spilt milk and look towards the giant glass of community made, fresh, exciting milk... That was a bad metaphor.
