They got me working overtime crunching these numbers and apparently I did so well our systems couldn't handle anymore!

Jokes aside, it's a simple but very fun and addicting game, excited to see what they add going forward

Still can't get over the fact that Xbox and Tango Gameworks just casually not only just announced this game, but also proceeded to drop this game out of nowhere, a quality game at that. Hi-Fi Rush was one hell of a 11 hours and I see myself going back for the 100% down the line.

Starting with what matters, the gameplay, it rocks! (pun semi-intended). Having to time things to the beat puts an interesting mechanic into this already interesting spin on the traditional character action genre, and having the ability to call in assists to help you during fights also adds another layer of depth and more enemy opportunities, which this game takes and runs with it, especially when you get later into the game. I do feel that in the later stages of the game things can get a bit hectic, but as long as you're able to stay to the beat, nothing feels unfair, but there is definitely a degree of challenge to this game even on the normal difficulty.

The platforming in the game can be hit or miss at times, I can see this being a negative in some peoples eyes because of how much you'll be doing in the earlier parts of the game, but since this is the teams first stab at a game like this, this is a part I'd like to see improved if they decide to greenlight a sequel or DLC for this game in the future!

The Boss Fights are very well made, there were only two instances in the entire game where I didn't understand what I was meant to be doing, but that was mostly down to me misinterpreting what the game was trying to tell me, so I imagine most players won't be running into the same issues that I had. The team definitely delivered on the vision of the boss fights being these spectacle set-pieces that they wanted!

In terms of story, the writing is definitely going to be a hit or a miss for people, that's for sure, I personally didn't have much of an issue with it, and I like that the game is aware of how it could be seen as unfunny and runs with it in certain conversations and story beats. The story itself is pretty simple, Chai and the gang need to go around to each head of department to stop a top secret project. It feels like the sort of thing that you would base a Disney Channel original movie on in the best way possible, there's a couple of twists and turns to the story, but it's quite simple at it's core and it knows that.

Graphically this game is a looker for sure, it feels like a lost game or even show from the 2000s in the best way possible, everything about the art-style to me is just pleasing to look at! The eye-catching colours, the cel-shading techniques used, the expressive character animations, it all just sort of blends together into this really cohesive style that I'm glad has a place in a sea of games striving for the most like-like graphics. And I can't get over how the environments and even the characters are always moving in-sync with the beat of the music in the stages.

The licensed music choices in the game are great as well, the music adds to that feeling of this being a lost game or show from the 2000s, and I also appreciate the fact that the developers also put together a completely original OST for people who wanted to stream the game without fear of being demonetised due to the licensed music, good on them for that!

To put it simply, it feels like I'm playing 2000s Cartoon Network or Disney Channel show in the best way possible. The visuals, the interesting gameplay premise and the story all meld together in a way where it all just compliments each-other and it was an absolute pleasure to play through.

If I had to give it a rating of sorts out of 10, I'd give this game an 7.5/10, lots of good here and I really enjoyed my time with the game, but also a handful of things that they could improve on if they want to take this and make a future franchise for Xbox. Would definitely recommend this game!

I won this this game via a Twitch giveaway when it came out back in March of 2019 and I'm so glad that this was the case. Risk of Rain 2 is one of the best rouge-likes currently on the market not only for it's initial offerings from Hopoo games. But also from the amazing community that breath new life into an already fantastic game through the modding scene.

I can't wait to see what Hopoo have in store for the games future expansions. The game is already a solid experience, new content ontop of that solid foundation can only go right as time goes on.
