Mario pilled Kartcels are never recovering from this one.
This game is phenomenal. Really my only gripes are with some of the Music choices. The new music for the track Water Palace based on the level from Sonic Rush has entirely new music that sounds nothing like "Back 2 Back" the beloved theme from that level. In addition, when completing a race on a track from a particular Sonic game, a new rendition of the level complete music from that game will play, Water Palace is the only exception, where it plays the music when completing an original track. It just seems very odd to me that the developers seemed to so thoroughly give Hideki Naganuma the shaft when his music is excellent and so well renowned within and outside of the community. Incredibly odd and disappointing though that may be, the new Water Palace music isn't bad at all, and most this game's soundtrack is also very good which is to be expected from a game from this franchise.

The idea for the full game to start in a sort of hallucinated snow-ravaged Ravenholm is very creative, everything here shows a lot of promise and I recommend checking it out as well as the YouTube channel for it to see a lot of the behind the scenes tech the team has been working on. The visuals in this demo are very good, it runs well and plays pretty much how I would expect it to play. I do have some minor nitpicks however, with what little combat there is in this demo, it doesn't feel very good at all to be blunt, and I hope it's something that gets worked on in the final product. The animations and sounds for the weapons feel very weak and unsatisfying to use aside from the Gravity Gun and the Crowbar. The weapons they've shown on their YouTube channel look and sound about the same as they do in the demo, that is to say they look like they're placeholder elements. Thankfully, this doesn't at all detract from the cold and isolated atmosphere that this demo executes perfectly.

Sonic Team knocked it outta the park. No spoilers in this review, as it is mostly about Shadow Generations.
The music is phenomenal. The game play is great, it just feels good and the new mechanics are introduced in a way that feels natural and more over, very fun. The levels are well designed and just the right amount of open ended to allow for exploration. You'll discover different branching paths and different ways to complete the levels almost every time you play through them. If you at all care about the plot or continuity of Sonic games or Shadow as a character, this game more than does it justice. Progression itself doesn't feel too challenging or too easy, all in all a very satisfying experience. 10/10

Next gen update adds nothing substantial and broke every mod. I get no enjoyment from the base game. It's not a good RPG and as shooters go, it's just alright. You're better off going to New Vegas for your "Fallout Fix" until most of the mods that make this game worth touching in 2024 are fixed.

It's very fun and there's a lot of content to enjoy. Though the boss fights are a drag, but they're also pretty short so it's not so bad. Most egregiously however is the price. I wanted to defend it before it came out, but after having played it, I don't think there's enough here to warrant a full triple-A price tag, let alone the extra cost for pre-ordering or any current or future DLC.
Unless you have an unhealthy obsession with Sonic or solid 2D platformers like me, you should wait till it goes on sale or for the price to drop before you get it.

This is a very short and sweet experience. Made me want to hug my cat more than usual.

It's a really fun and unique take on a platform fighter. It definitely takes inspiration from Smash Bros but it does enough differently on its own that both could very well co-exist. It focuses a lot on team work which I think is interesting, and it does it really well. The biggest issue I think is the battle pass system, which I've never personally been a fan of. It's all cosmetic so it doesn't matter that much in the end, but it still feels somewhat predatory. In addition to this, you buy new fighters with coins, but different fighters cost differing amounts of coins, which I find really odd.
