I enjoyed this game, just like I did with the previous two. But here's the thing - this game isn't for everyone.

I completely understand why some people dislike this entry. It was a lot darker, and far more explicit in the scenes. I even think that one ending was a little too much. The game is a lot sadder with Jecka as the protagonist since she isn't as jaded or sociopathic like Nicole is. When Jecka goes through bad ♥♥♥♥, you feel bad for her in a way that's different than how you feel bad for Nicole.

I feel like some of the characters acted in ways that, while not unbelievable, were kind of out of character. Nicole was a lot more vicious in this than she was in the last two games, for example. Granted, I'm aware that the game doesn't really care for what's canon or deep character lore - honestly, I find people that care about that stuff too much to be really annoying; not everything needs that level of sincerity, especially not a game like this - but I still think that the characters didn't really feel like themselves at times.

I really think that a good portion of the negative reception comes from fans who either didn't know or forgot how edgy the series is. I don't blame queer teenagers for latching onto the series for the lesbian stuff in the last game, but I feel like the game has always been really provocative and inflammatory. Like I said, some things felt a little overboard, but I really can't say that I was shocked. Maybe letting that side of the fanbase know how much more ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up this game would be would have helped smooth the reception of the game, but that's neither here nor there.

I think that the dialogue is still hilarious. The lines from each of the characters were really funny, and there was never a scene where it failed to get me to laugh at least a couple of times. And the voice actors did amazing work, as usual. Their acting really helps sell the jokes.

I can see why people would write off the game as fetish content, and while I get that it would make some people uncomfortable, I don't think you can go so far as to suggest that those scenes are some sort of weird fantasy scenario for the writer. As with the previous games, it's very explicit that Jeffrey, along with all the men that end up liking the girls in that way, are all ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ creeps who deserve whatever's happening to them. So, uncomfortable? Yeah, I can see that. But explicitly written to be fetish content? I don't think so. (Spoilers for the two fetish-y routes)The scenes that are depicted are very clearly supposed to be awkward, and while you could call the perspective questionable, the actual act was never shown, and the only time that her feet are actually visible is when she is literally dead. So unless you suspect SBN3 of being a pedophilic necrophile, I don't think that this is supposed to get you off.

I enjoyed all the added CGs in this entry too. The artwork was amazing as usual, and it was great getting to see their world with more detail in every route, and the characters' expressions are hilarious. I think the added CGs might be where the price comes from, since there are way more than in the last two games.

I don't really mind the lack of interactivity, since I just like to treat the game as more of a TV show where I can pick the ending, and I can just sit back and watch. And I think that's really the best way to enjoy the series - it's episodic and doesn't take itself seriously. It's like a sitcom, as the game itself puts it. Maybe the series works better as a show, but that's not really a concern of mine.

All in all, I think that's a fun game. A little short, and maybe the price is a little steep, but it's a fun game. I don't think that it's for everyone, and I think that it's really aiming for an audience that's old enough to appreciate the references (or is maybe some kind of young 00's pop culture nerd) but enjoys shock humor. If you like old Newgrounds flash animations, you'd probably enjoy this. I still think that the Re-Up was probably the best entry (as of writing this) but I wouldn't go so far as to call this game bad, or even "mid". Again, it's not for everyone, but it's definitely a fun ride if you can stomach it.

An amazing game that I can tell had lots of heart put into it. The music in this game is fantastic - both the licensed and original tracks. As a rhythm game, this is obviously pretty important (you wouldn't want to get sick of the songs you're playing in beat to, after all). But the music also works insanely well from an action perspective; the feeling of swinging Chai's guitar, jumping, dashing and to the rhythm is so insanely satisfying and mastering it feels awesome. It also really helps the cinematics - I won't give any details, but there is a scene that is basically a climactic "power of friendship moment", and the music really helped sell that emotional "oomf".

The characters are all lovable and charming, and I found myself attached to all of them by the end of my first playthrough. I can see how the game's humor might not be for everyone, but I personally really enjoyed it and found myself laughing at all the jokes. This game is fun, lighthearted, and doesn't take itself too seriously. But despite that, it's really easy to grow fond of the characters and become emotionally invested in the story that's being told.

I played on very hard for my first playthrough, and needless to say, found myself at the game over screen more times than I can count. but with that said, I never got tired of this game, and was driven to finish it because of its lovable characters, story, soundtrack, and gameplay. Regardless of whatever difficulty you choose, I can assure you that you'll have a blast with this game. Rock on!

At first when I saw the game, I thought it was going to be some weird mediocre indie game with violence being it's only aspect. Not to mention it's face sprites. Those were pretty horrifying.

Once I got over those face sprites, though, I was proven wrong. With it's high skill ceiling and, in-depth gameplay and (albiet confusing) story, accompanied by it's 80's theme, it makes for a great game.
