While in some regards it is not as great in atmosphere to Halo CE's Campaign, it's levels are highly re-playable and each different, it has the best sandbox of the series (thus far), and is definitely the most bombastic. Unfortunately, it takes a back seat in regards to the narrative and is not as strong as Halo 2's great writing and expansion of the universe. That being said, it is hard for me to put any other Campaign above this one when you can play it with 3 of your friends. (343, please add 4 player coop to H:CE and H2!)

As for multiplayer, people are divided between H2 and this one. Personally, I think Halo 3 is better due to its better balancing of weapons, even if some of them feel weak (I am looking at you shotgun) or sound like you are microwaving popcorn (come on AR!). Personally, H3 is very close to the ideal Halo multiplayer experience and is the best one available for the time.

If you have not given Halo a shot, I would say to start with Combat Evolved, but this is a great place too :)
