This is a continuation of a comment I left on Moose_711's review of the game (Check for it in the review section) as they've summed it up far better than I could have. Here's my extended response to that review:

An excellent summation. I couldn't quite force myself to sit quietly through the game's story because Anja was just the most insufferable character throughout the whole experience. What made it worse was that, as Moose stated, everyone just forgives her! Almost immediately! Even when half of them have literally just met her less than a few hours ago (Can't remember the name of the chick with the water in her hair but she was bordering on being a groupie for Anja right off the bat).

The real kick in the head is that Zeke is the only person who seems to speak any level of sense in all of this nonsense, and everyone basically tells him to shut up and stop being mean to Anja.

1.> She unleashes an ancient evil sealed away in a forbidden area (of which Zeke has a duty to guard).

2.> She is warned numerous times NOT to enter said forbidden area; does it anyway.

3.> And then, when she ends up being the sole reason said ancient evil is unleashed from said forbidden area, WHICH SHE WAS TOLD WOULD HAPPEN, somehow, Zeke, the literal person tasked to guard said forbidden area from intruders, is being mean to her by saying that he's leaving and doesn't trust her???

It's like some bizarre circle-jerk where all the women you meet are flirting with each other! As if women are all just constantly patting each other on the back for the slightest thing. An entire civilization is destroyed by an evil entity that the "protagonist" WILLINGLY frees, and I'm supposed to be rooting for her?? The antagonist of the game up until that point even tells her upfront that he wants her to show up so he can use her to propel and complete his evil plan to unleash this entity, and like the freshly-grown idiot that Anja is written as, she goes and does just that even when everyone around her tells her that she shouldn't (including her groupie teammates).

I was getting serious early-game Luke from Tales of the Abyss vibes from her the whole game and that is not a thought anyone should have about a character. At least in Luke's defense, he had to actually work to gain back everyone's trust after he realized he almost doomed the world, and even then some of them still had their reservations about him; only agreeing to work with him to topple the main antagonist because he was a bigger threat (which is how any normal person would be after another person betrays their trust and faith in them that severely).

But no, Anja is just absolved of all responsibility or consequences for her actions. No strings attached, no time to heal the damages she caused, no relationships too late to fix, No skepticism. Nope. Almost immediately, everyone is like, "Oh don't worry about it too much." and that's that.

I really liked the combat, but it gets really stale after awhile. Not because you can't grind, but because you'll definitely only play a small handful of characters because new characters are never on par with the ones you already have. And there's almost no utility in most of them so there's almost no need to switch to any other characters for any fight, which would have been a great way to make players want to switch out characters (like Xenoblade Chronicles 2).

And the checkpoints system is so absurd that you can be set back about half an hour of progress in a dungeon by losing smaller fights or not being 200% accurate on the platforming. Don't even get me started on losing to the boss itself and being sent back just because you made ONE mistake and died for it.

I was excited for the game when it came out. I was part of the Indiegogo backers so I really was hyped for it and wanted to like it. But it's clear that corners were cut and that the game ultimately suffered from a lack of clear direction in both story and gameplay. A good concept with poor execution. It's certainly not the worst game in the world, but it's average at best and a headache after the first 20 minutes at worst.

The one sale I just happen to be out of spending funds for. These sales are taunting me and it hurts. :ralphhurt::DOuch::mkmandrake:
