Haven't gotten to the depths of the game yet, so this is mostly about initial feel and mechanics.

Pros:
  • Lots of references to various games, and clearly a lot of influence from other similar games like Gungeon, Nuclear Throne (the swishy melee, I love it) and so on, while still maintaining its own identity.
  • Plenty of weapon variety. They nailed something I love in games like this: Goofy weapons. You want a cube that summons other cubes that drop from the ceiling? A rubber duck that's also a gun? Go nuts. I will always choose a functionally terrible but absurd weapon over something conventional.
  • Passive items. All kinds of stuff, from the useful to the useless (the $500 passive that makes fart sounds when you fire), lots of variety, and lots of dumb stuff.
  • Tiddy witch.
  • Actively updated. The game as it is is done. They could never touch it again aside from bug fixes and it'd stand up, but they're adding more content. On top of that, it's free new content, not DLC or whatever. Dodge Roll Games did the same for Enter the Gungeon for ages, and the end result is my favourite game.
  • A demo! You can't go wrong with a demo. I've heard that you get fewer sales if you have a demo, but I figure that's just because, shockingly, people don't want to buy a game it turns out they don't like. I respect any dev that puts out a demo because it's implicitly saying "If you don't like it, fair enough." rather than trying to get every penny they can.
  • The special rooms are well done. Not much to say there, just a good execution.

Neutral:
  • The game has verticality, which I like, but it doesn't really use it much. Mostly just some enemies bouncing up and down so you have to jump to hit them. I much prefer that over i-frames, so I can't complain. You can also use it to jump over furniture. It's fine.
  • There's a floor time limit mechanic. Normally I really dislike these, but you can easily outrun this one (to the point of eluding it entirely), it's not too hard to juke, and it stops if you enter a shop. It's a very soft time limit, rather than, for example, an immortal ghost that instakills you. Also fine.

Cons:
  • The isometric perspective sometimes causes problems. Items can be hard to pick up, and projectiles hard to dodge, entirely because you're not sure where you are relative to them and vice versa.
  • The game freezes up for a few seconds on entering a level. It's not a big deal, but if it's a loading thing, a small loading screen would work better.
  • The game could benefit a lot from more bosses for each level. Think of how Binding of Isaac often has over a dozen options for what boss you'll fight (this is an extreme example, BoI uses a DLC system so it has more money for development). It adds a lot more replayability when there's more that can go differently run to run.
  • You can only destroy pots. I want to leave a room looking like a nuke has gone off inside. Even if it's limited to explosive weapons, letting the player just trash everything would be great.
  • Character voices are kinda quiet and there's no separate voice volume. Not like they say much, but it still bothers me.
  • Screen shake. I *loathe* it. You can turn it off though so who cares.

Overall, fun game, good price, tiddy witch. Highly recommend.

The game is being actively updated, so any complaints I've made about something being lacking may well be addressed as time goes on.

PS: Go on, fight Chunk. You definitely won't die. Pay no attention to the damage numbers. You can trust me.

A wonderful game, with infinite variety of play styles. Of the 9 classes, each has many, many variations, so you'll never get bored of the gameplay.
