High quality, side scrolling, platforming, fast action, dungeon crawler. This one is quite a bit harder than the original, but with time and practice you will get the hang of it.

One of the most captivating metroidvania style game I've ever played. The music, lore, game play are all 10/10. Even that under rates this game.

This game pays homage to the early Final Fantasy series in style and game play, but brings in a level of depth and character development that truly makes it shine. This game is in my top 5 for story for games made this decade. I haven't played 40+ hour game non-stop like that in years and loved every minute of it.
PS I played the enhanced beta version only.

The game is a standard infinite dungeon crawl, but with a built in system that causes you to die in one hit if cursed. This cursed system takes game from being casual and enjoyable to craptastic hardcore. Sure you can skip out on the cursed chests to avoid the curse, but this comes at the cost of gimping your guy just a little bit each level. End result is die fast or slow while trying to perfect your gameplay. Honestly the game is not fun enough after 20 hours frustration to continue trying to beat it.

This is the closest game to Japanese roly playing perfection I've ever played. It's only downfall is the overly complex combat system. Do yourself a favor and play on normal if you want a little grinding or simple if you want easy mode with non-stop story.

How can this game be so well liked. The character controls feel cumbersome, the story starts out insanely epic then dwindles down to you doing meaningless crap (horrible flow and IMO the opposite of suspense build up), the character leveling system is not intuitive, and the quest system is a mess. All of this leads to a significant drop off in any sense of urgency or continuity of story line. While I'm sure other's might be into this sort of gameplay I found it about as fun as banging my head against a wall.

The game play is fast paced and somewhat entertaining with it's combo autobattle system. Though after a almost 2 hours of playing I realized all i was doing was hitting 1 button fast while in combat and then using a potion as needed every 9 or 10 fights. This I can look past since final fantasy games for me has always been more about the story that pulls you in and the sense of accomplishment you get when you overcome the various hurdles thrown in your path for character development. This game failed miserably in providing either one of those.
This game has you change main characters every 15 to 25 minutes during the first few hours of play. There is no depth, it's full of cliches, and lacks from any sense of cohesion that could possibly be existant in a storyline except for the fact that there is a war going on inside a city somewhere. I'm sure if I devoted my time in reading all of the background articles the game wants you to spend reading I could of gleaned additional information, but I bought this game to be entertained via cinematics and gameplay. I did not want to be informed of key elements of the story via stopping game play to look up the excessive amounts of datalog files...
All things considered I found this to be the first Final Fantasy game I've played that was not enjoyable. After two hours of time I've given up on both this game and its sequel that I bought.

Do not buy this game, after over 111 hours of frustration I have to say that as much as I wanted to enjoy this I simply could not get into a game that black screens upon entering towns sometimes immediately after a computer restart to other times after 60 minutes of game play. Saving frequently got me into the third campaign with Anton, but by then I had my fill and decided that enough was enough.

I do not think I'll ever buy another game published by Ubisoft again.

This game is everything that Diablo 3 should of been. The theory crafting on character building is amazing and the way you can play the game is very versatile. The fact that this is a free game blows my mind. I would of easily spent 30 to 40 on this and felt that it was money well spent.
