Every second was pure joy. Never in your life will you play a game like "Hylics" by Mason Lindroth. "Hylics" by Mason Lindroth is one of the games of all time, and "Hylics" by Mason Lindroth should be played by all 8,146,832,112 people on earth at least once. I give "Hylics" by Mason Lindroth 5,2 theories out of 7.6 skin bones. (A perfect score).

Die hard BGS fan here. I have always loved BGS games. Even with their flaws, I always thought that they were perfect anyways. I have over 3000 hours in skyrim across platforms (A little over 1300 hours between SE and original on Steam, and the rest on my old ps3 when I was a kid.) and the same amount on oblivion (Mostly on my ps3). I even still play Skyrim to this day, which to me is a testement to how good I think that game is. This is how I feel about Oblivion and skyrim. I played and enjoyed fallout 3 and 4, but to a much lesser extent because I just don't care for the setting of Post Apocalypse.

But space? I LOVE space. So when I heard about Starfield, I was certain I was going to love it. So if anyone, it's me who you can trust to give you a valid opinion on this game.

So.. I mean, this game should be awesome then, right? Skyrim in space, right? Well... No. Not even close. In fact, this isn't even BGS in space. This is... it's nothing. It's quite literally nothing.

Starfield is a game so vast in scope, with so many systems, that somehow has nothing to do, and no reasons to engage with any of those systems.

Starfield is many things, and perhaps to some it is fun, but if you're expecting a BGS RPG, this will do nothing for you. The main DNA of bethesda is gone. That feeling of exoploring, following a quest line, and running into new and interesting places and story on the way to some random objective, getting lost in the world, and slowly building an interesting and unique story for your charecter... That is what makes BGS games great. But that just isn't here.

No interesting unique items and armors that are exciting to find with interesting backstories, no interesting locations with unique stories, none of that. All you will find while "exploring" In this game, are the same items and locations copy pasted everywhere. And I mean that litteraly, you will land on a planet and find the EXACT same mining facility, cell for cell, as you found on your last planet. The worst part? There is nothing to DO in these places.

All exploring or doing quests in this game leads to is fighting guys. That's it. No cool items, no interesting stories and interactions, just people to mindlessly shoot. There is just, no reason to explore or go anywhere. And unfortunately, it is the exact same thing for every single mechanic in this game. No reason to do things.

For example, you have a ship. You can uprgade and build this ship, that cool, but there is no reason to do this. The only reason to upgrade your ship? Is to... you guess it! Fight guys, except, ~in space~. That is the ONLY reason. You don't fly anywhere, you don't use fuel, you don't even use your ship for ANYTHING. You can destroy a ships engine, dock it, and steal it? that is SUPER cool. Or atleast it WOULD be, if there was a reason to do that! Why steal this ship? It's better than your ship? Okay, but those stats don't mean anything, because you don't use your ship for anything, other than FIGHTING MORE SHIPS! Which therefore we have just established is pointless! The only reason to steal a ship is to sell it, which only nets you a couple thousand credits, credits which only have ONE PURPOSE. Can you guess what it is? To buy OTHER SHIPS. That, or buy new weapons and armor, to fight more guys. But we have already established, there is no reason to fight more guys, because there is no reward for doing so, other than getting better gear, to fight more guys easier...

There are cool and interesting mechanics here, but there is no reason to engage in ANY of them, as they all just hit a brick wall... These could be really easy to fix, like, maybe make fuel for the ships? That way, fighting other ships would have a purpose, because maybe you can steal fuel from them, something like that. But even then, it's pointless, because the only reason you would need to get fuel is to travel to these other worlds, worlds which, as i mentioned, are filled with nothing but empty space, and copy pasted locations with nothing to do on them other than kill guys.

In a game like skyrim, this powerscaling works because there are things to persue at the other ends. A word wall you want to get to? It's blocked by a dragon priest, so you'll need to be strong enough to kill it to get that word wall. The dragonpriest itself is wearing a mask which can be used when paired with all over masks to get another super powerful mask, creating a reason to get strong enough to kill these enemies in the first place. It WORKS. But starfield doesn't have anything like this. It just has nothing.

So, to recap:
There is no reason to land on planets, because there is nothing there.
There is no reason to upgrade your ship, because your ship has no real purpose.
There is no reason to fight or kill anybody because you arn't rewarded with anything for doing so (all you are rewarded with is just being stronger with no real reason why you need to be stronger)

So what else is there? The quests.
But here is the thing. BGS quests are never really the strong point. The quests are there to curate your charecters unique story. The quests in skyrim can often have cool concepts and themes, like killing a demi-god like being, and stealing their sworld, or helping a Daedra and recieving their blessing, but like starfield, these quests usually just consists of going to a place and killing guys. So why does it work in Skyrim, but not in starfield? Well i have already answered that question. There are reasons to get stronger in skyrim, things to do that require getting stronger, But starfield, since all of it's other systems feel completely pointless, just makes it's quests even more pointless. The only way they wouldn't be, is if these quests were just straight up good and interesting stories. And I'm sorry to say, they just arn't.

The main quest just consists of going to a random barren planet, walking for 5-10 minutes in one direction with nothing to do or find in the inbetween, finding a piece of metal in a random place (usually a cave) that is either just a couple enemies to kill, or completely empty, then grabbing the thing, and leaving. And that is it. Over and over and over, not exagerating, it is quite litterally just that, over and over and over again.

The other quests also have no flair, as they are all just located from quest givers in one place. No running into them, no finding them, they are just there. If they made every quest all just a list on a bulletin board to choose from in every major city, there would be 0 change in gameplay.

And that's it.
That is Starfield.

No reason to use any of the mechanics.
No incentive to explore or enjoy these mechanics.
And passionless quests just tossed in one place, with no passion or immersion or sense of intrigue in their execution.

I have NEVER put such a low amount of hours into an RPG in my life.

To put it simply, and to explain the entire game in one anology, it is this:

Starfield has it's own version of "Shouts" like in skyrim. In skyrim, these shouts are earned from word walls hidden throughout the world, at the tops of mountains, at the end of dungeons, protected by dragons or ancient liches, locked behind puzzles, or deep at the end of long and interesting questlines. They often need to be found through exploration, each word wall essentially it's own unique location and identity.

In Starfield, their word walls, or "temples" as they are called in this game, are straight up located for you. You then fast travel directly to the planet they are on, then walk for 5-10 minutes in one direction, with nothing in-between you and the temple. And then you find the exact same copy pasted temple over and over and over again for all 30 powers, with the exact same puzzle over and over and over again.

Starfield is lazy, lacks direction, lacks identity, and lacks purpose.
It is a vast large universe that unfortunately mimics our own: it is filled with nothing.

Final verdict: 4/10

Honestly a very good game, With all the secrets it makes it exciting, the story if you follow it is good, and its ver satisfying when you finnaly beat that boss you've been trying to get, by slowly getting better gear and lkeveling up till you can finnaly bet him.

played through the entire story, it was fun, however they tie the factions into the main sotry, which makes the quest lines for those factions very short and used to progress the main story. Logged in about 40 hours, and after the main story theres really nothing to do, most side quests are boring IMO, aside from a few exceptions, overall give this game 6 or 7/10.
Im a TES fan boy and thought id try out fallout. Not really shure idf its worth the hype or 70 dollars. But hey this is just my opinion.
