Hey, pretty OK game. My wishlist:

1. A curve in the road sometimes. This is the post that directed me to this game, and I think the curve is very nice. It could add some variety. https://www.reddit.com/r/outrun/comments/i2lvob/the_sun_watches_what_i_do_but_the_moon_knows_my/

2. Ability to play music from your own music directory. The player can already mute the in game music and do this, but, still would like it.

3. A way to end games without dying. Time Attack is probably the best mode, because it is the only one that does not end in death. However, the ending still feels abrupt... Peaceful mode does not have any end or reward.

3a. Time Attack mode might feel more natural if it ended when the music track did, instead of its current behavior of cutting off the track in the middle. Possibly do not allow the player to change music tracks in this mode, but let the player choose the music track before starting.

4. If the player wishes to follow traffic rules, traffic around the player seems to behave strangely. I get brake-checked a lot which is not relaxing at all. The AI cars also seem to enjoy elephant racing.

5. It would be nice to be able to stop on the road in peaceful mode. For some reason, the game makes the decision to go ahead and warp you back to the middle of the road with forward velocity if you go too slow. Sometimes it is nice to stop.

6. If a player does exit a track (through death, main menu, etc...) please do not advance the music track. I am not very good at the game so I was finding myself getting pretty into a track, but then it stops and takes me out of it, because I died in a car crash. If the music didn't stop, I would at least be able to pretend the car crash didn't happen.

7. In-game key rebindings.

Basically I feel like the game has a really strong contrast between the theme of vaporwave & relaxing, conflicting with the reality of being stuck in traffic & dying in car crashes (and for some reason a mode where the only way to end the game is to die in an explosion??).

I would have liked to see gameplay that was not so bleak. The peaceful mode does exist & I enjoy it, even though there is no way to end it, so the game still gets the Thumbs Up. I will look forward to future developments.

This is a great wrapper for what is basically just randomized flash-cards. There are standard RPG elements & magic spells that don't involve learning Katakana too, but, obviously if you're not playing the game to learn Katakana, there are MUCH better RPGs out there.

The story is "enough" that it's not just a flash-card game, but other than the novel enemy design, it is a completely generic and mostly boring RPG. I'd even say some of the character dialogue is "cringy" at times. But if you let yourself have fun, it *is* much more fun than flash-cards. The main draw of this game over a traditional course is that it feels good to correctly identify the enemies (Katakana glyphs) and "defeat" them, and it feels good to "level up".

My main criticisms for this as a learning aid would be:

1) I would like to have more fonts shown, to see what Katakana really looks like when it's not calligraphy. They show it sometimes, but not often enough.

2) It took conscious effort not to learn the characters by *position in the attack menu*, but by their strokes. I would really like an option to randomize the order for the attack menu, but having them in a consistent order did make it easier to learn them too, so it should just be an option that can be enabled/disabled during battle maybe.

3) Some of the RPG elements detract from studying. For example, every time Tia uses her maximum friendship spell, she says the name of the spell out loud, in English, and I have to try and ignore it because it is distracting and takes me out of "Katakana mode". You don't have to use the spells, but they are helpful for the RPG part of the game.

Overall, yes, I can recommend this game as a learning aid for Katakana. It kept me interested in the subject long enough to learn them all, and I imagine I'll keep coming back to the game if I need to refresh my memory.

Extremely linear. All characters are idiots. Why isn't there more help from the Academy when "the world is at stake"? The "Good Ending" felt like a bad ending because of how stupid and oblivious and self-defeating the main character is.

The damage system, while impressive when compared to other games, still needs work. Note that the game IS in early access. Cars seem to be able to function far past a realistic threshold. It can get to the point where it looks like it just exited the compacter, but still keep going.

Additionally, there isn't too much content. A few race options and a demolition derby. The races are very difficult. I've never finished better than 7/16, even though I don't have problems in other racing games.

The derby, however, is a lot of fun, and I'll play it over and over, but it's only about 10 minutes each time. Using "$1/hr of entertainment" as a standard, you'd have to play the demolition derby over a hundred times to get your money's worth out of the current product.
