This game was a huge dissapointment, I was pretty excited to play this game in VR.

Unfortunately, the game is so buggy in VR and was basically unplayable, despite having all the graphics settings on low, my 2070 super could barley run the game at 80 fps, what a joke.

Bioshock is a fantastic game in the medium of video game storytelling. Alot of people do dispute the fact that Video Games have any artistic integrity, although true for the large majority of lackluster titles, Bioshock is the diamond in the rough of true video game quality. Whats Great about this, like most brilliant video games, is that the storytelling is seemingleslly blended into the video game mechanics, the mechanics of the video game makes perfect sense and vice verca. Whats great is the lack of custscenes, except very minor exceptions towards the end, this allows the gamer to be fully imersed in the experience, in a similar vein to the Half-Life game series from Valve.

Not only is this game brilliantly designed, it is greatly written, the writing is like nothing seen in a video game before, top notch, clever, with social ommentary about politics and the ethics of society. Andrew Ryan is one of the great villians seen in a video game, and idelaist libertarian who wished to make the perfect Anarchist Libertarian society, with free trades and markets, unfortently there was rebellion, plasmids (clear anology of drugs) which caused the society to crumble. Eventually Andrew Ryan degenerated into a dictatator. The game is not a criticism of the politics however, but an idealist man who wanted create the world in his image, which ultimatly failed. How deep is this video game? More like most others, not even most movies tackle these types of subjects, and although films have tackled much brouder subjects, video games are still in there infantcy.

The game has a great atmosphere, it is rather ambigious by nature, but the viewer can choose to listen to the tape recording they pick up along the way to further the story but it is entierlly optional. The game looks and sounds extradionary with great set peices, twists and turns, the little sisters and Big Daddys add great depth to the mysterious world of Rapture. I would go as far to say that Rapture is one of the greatest and most immersive places to see in a video game.

It is not perfect, however, the last third in particually which unfortuently falls into generic terratory, there is a certain event which I wont give away which changs the nature of the story, and it goes on for another third. The last third isn't terrible, but its greatly underwhelming, the story falls apart and I cant help but feel it writes itself into a hole. The game also starts to use game convecntions such as escort missions and overlong boss fights, which is a shame considering the story started so strong. The moral dillema of the little sisters also feels rather arbutiary, they offer no difference in the games narrative except a few ending cutscenes, which is rather dissapointing. The lack of an inventory screen is also a cause for frustration but it is a mild complaint.

What is a great game, and an achievment in video game as an artistic medium, falls short of being a masterpeice.
