This is the best rollercoaster builder/simulator still, even after 26 years, hands down.
Why? Zero performance problems on any PC built after 2002, no handholding, total freedom to build rides and tweak with them. In all other titles you are either limited or get performance problems the money you have more than 3 rollercoasters. Runs fine on my machine, though I'd prefer the resolution options from OpenRTC2.

However, please note the following:

OpenRTC2 has more features and is better and easier to use, but when installing it, you will encounter issues with missing data files in the RTC release here!
Therefore I highly recommend using OpenRTC and looking at https://archive.org/details/OpenRCT2Assets and https://archive.org/details/OpenRCT2-Assets in order to be able to run it.

Surprisingly, this means that you can run a better version without requiring the files from this particular release. Do with this information as you wish.

He is risen.

This game, while not the most impressive in execution, does give a pretty good portrayal of the elements of the faith to which I hold. Jesus died for me on the cross, and he fulfilled prophecy and Gods law for man.

He redeemed the human race, which is otherwise unsalvageable, and saved us; all that remains for us is to call upon him, as stated in Romans 10:9, Acts 16:31 and Joel 2:32. Indeed, as Jesus put it: "It is done". The debt has been paid. By God Himself, in Jesus, and him crucified. I cannot put this with more eloquence, as it is that blunt. (1 Corinthians 2:2)

And that, again, is fine. Jesus paid the price, and none of us can boast.

I cannot recommend this game to anyone.

The leveling system is deeply annoying, and frankly, I enjoy the ground combat far more than space combat. despite that lacking polish. If you end up fighting against higher level enemies, which you will then: in space combat, they regenerate health. You can try to split up ships, to fight 1-1, but the game randomly decides to kill you if It detects you doing that? Or is it a bug?!?

Unfortunately, sometimes the game just decides to kill you. You randomly start taking damage, like "poison" but I see no source or mechanic that describes this, and I just die. After killing 4/5 high level enemies I can only conclude that this game punishes people for not playing the game they way they should, and not wanting to accept that they were "destined to die". Almost like the dev is watching and deciding "yeah no, I think you should have died".

This game destroys its own potential by having unnecessary, and deeply frustrating level mechanics.

Instead of punishing people and making it impossible to take on high level enemies, you should reward them.

This is so frustrating. I spent hours just to get the game to run smoothly on Linux, it even took some doing on windows too.

Very hardcore single player game.
You either cheese it, or you play it almost like you would a puzzle game. But it's fair. You're nothing special in the world.. unless you save scum and really play things tactically, exploiting systems very carefully.. otherwise you're toast.

They donated 250.000 dollars "on behalf of all players" to the world health organization. This organization caused many deaths and got people to get injections worse than most viruses. It is unethical to support this.

Update: The game works fine, and some performance troubles aside, I am impressed and enjoy playing it. Some minor revamps in the levelling make the exploits I would go for unfeasible, and this forces me to play the game properly. This is actuall a major improvement that should not be understated.

(cause found) Unfortunately, after compiling the shaders, the game always instantly crashes, I am not able to play.
I don't know whether to blame microsft, nvidia, or bethesda or even Intel. ALl of them have dropped the ball recently in ways that have not happened since 2005.

Everything sucks and I miss 2006, back then you could depend on your OS, CPU, GPU, and game developers.

Edit: After rolling back to the 560.63 Nvidia driver, I was able to load into the game ONCE. I am afraid I have to refund this game, because I can't play it. (Do not use the latest drivers, the temperature is reported wrong, you may cook your card ...)

I managed to play over 100 minutes, but I can't get into the game, always crashing or freezing, i'm not even sure why I managed to load it once.

Edit: I figured it out; the engine.ini from the performance tweak from a mod I didn't have active, nor installed from vortex mod managed was missing some vital entries. This was crashing the game.

Performance is somewhat poor, so I am not yet changing to recommended, the loading is slow, and the levelling mechanism has been changed somewhat, so it's not QUITE the same as the original, despite what everyone told you.

Edit; the 7.5 update made my katana accelrate about 10 times slower, I am not even exagerating, also eafter about 30 minutes of trying, I still accidentally overshoot by like 2 kilometres after boosting. Very disappointing and very very strong nerf of the ship I got to be as fast and quick as possible to drive. Massively downgraded experience flying. I am very sad to see this and have reverted back to 7.10 immediately.
I also almost lost my save, thanks to incompatibility, and that would have meant I would have stopped playing entirely.

I don't see what kind of new features woudd be worth suffering the loss of the flying experience that I got hooked to. Sorry.

This game is very unintuitive. The controls are difficult and braking your ship is a two-hand-let-go-of-either-mouse-or-keyboard binding. The first thing I saw was that the first option in the first menu led me to the store page for DLC.

I had a mission disappear on me when doing an escort. As far as I can tell, I did not lose the mission, I didn't manage to collect any cargo due to aforementioned problem, and I also didn't get any messages. I feel like I went out playing for nothing.

I feel as though any and all achievements in this game I will ever make will be cheesed and that I can't ever come to properly enjoy this game.

All in all, I feel the developer has done a remarkably poor job at making this game accessible to players. It's like it's designed to be difficult on the parts that should be easy, and easy on the parts that should be difficult.

But once you get past this, the game is very enjoyable.

This is one of the most iconic games I played. It was way ahead of its time and its a beloved memory and inspiration to both me and evidently many of the games I played since. Not all of my friends yet have this game, but they should get it since its free right now.

Early Access Review
This game should not exist.

The physics are phenomenal, so are the graphics, raytracing. The atmosphere... the building is incredibly intuitive for how complex it is.. the controls just work... As advertised, the transition between atmo and space is precisely as it should be.
The math and numbers all work out; I am in stable orbit precisely under the right conditions.

I programmed an air plane/rover in less than 2 hours using about 30-40 nodes, I didn't need to rely on looking up how things worked outside of the little help that the in-game tutorial and menu lookup offered.

It's just magical, and I never expected to play a game like this in my life time again, let alone multiplayer, early access. My mind is blown.

EDIT: after 150+ hours in this game, I am more impressed. There are some issues with the physics every now and then, but these are all conscious concessions made for the time being by the developer to guarantee a good experience for players.

There are great plans ahead, and the developers have impeccable functional and even moreso technical understanding on how to compromise short term to achieve long term success, and they know things about programming and game design that the Jedi council of developers would never tell you.

I will follow their carreer with great interest. Batcholi has understanding of C++ in games that I have not seen outside the likes of Cormack, and understanding of programming practices that I have only seen from the likes of Torvalds and Jason Turner.

Together, Batcholi and FloDKSM can bring order and peace to the galaxy.
