What I Played: I originally played this as a kid back in the early 2000s, building death coasters and drowning guests like every other little psychopath with a PC. Fast forward to now — I installed OpenRCT2 and holy crap, this game absolutely holds up. 115 hours later and I'm still tweaking coaster layouts at 2am like I have nowhere to be tomorrow. OpenRCT2 breathes so much new life into this classic that it honestly feels like a remaster nobody had to pay for.

The Good:

• The core gameplay loop is genuinely perfect. There's something deeply satisfying about watching your park go from an empty field to a sprawling empire of coasters and food stalls. The scenario objectives give you just enough structure without strangling your creativity.
  
• OpenRCT2 turns this into a modern experience — widescreen support, fast-forward, multiplayer, cheats if you want them, and the ability to actually build parks without fighting the UI. If you're buying this on Steam, do yourself a favor and grab OpenRCT2 immediately.
  
• The depth is insane for a game from 1999. Guest AI actually reacts to ride intensity, park cleanliness, pricing. You can min-max the economics or just vibe and build pretty parks. Both are valid.
  
• The Deluxe edition includes Corkscrew Follies and Loopy Landscapes which adds a ton of scenarios. You're getting hundreds of hours of content here easily.

The Bad:

• Vanilla without OpenRCT2 is rough. The original resolution and controls feel painful by modern standards. You basically need the mod to enjoy this properly in 2026.
  
• Some later scenarios are brutally difficult and rely on pretty specific strategies. Trial and error can get tedious when a scenario takes an hour before you realize your approach was doomed from the start.

Verdict: Recommended - After 115 hours I'm still not tired of it. Pair this with OpenRCT2 and you've got one of the best management sims ever made, running better than it did 25 years ago. An absolute must-own.
