Top down Terraria with better npc management. An instant classic.

Reminder! Terraria was a lot smaller than we all remember when the game first came out!

This game has been in development for years as a passion project and is just now releasing fully. It's clearly going to be updated regularly as the game sells and the team gets more resources to back it, but it's already a complete experience with satisfying endgame and replay mechanics. In the next few years I'd be shocked if we didn't see multiple overhauls with massive additions in content.

This is just the ground floor and it allows enough creativity and exploration to keep you happy for hours!

(EARLY STORY SPOILERS)

This is just more dying light 2. It's nice to have more of a reason to get back on besides the repetitive Shen Xiu and Haper challenges, and the new masks seem pretty neat. I haven't seen that much of the dlc's story so far but the writing already has me cursing techland's god awful writers. I always thought it was kinda off putting that the singular woman in the main campaign that actually does any fighting/surviving whatsoever surprises Aiden with her being-a-woman-ness and then immediately knees him in the balls, only to become a forced romantic interest with almost no soul or life to her outside of revenge and being so interesting because "look a woman who fights." I get that we're gamers but fallout 4 lets you beat the s-word out of female raiders all day and that post apocalyptic game is from 2015.

I'm not just roasting the weird writers of great neck bearded-ness for nothing though. The first real side quest I ran into in the dlc is a woman trying to prove girls can join the fight too by... having a nameless grunt with no history of doing anything besides being tall and a woman fight the main f-wording character. I knew instantly what the writers were going for here and it was so cringey to watch after I have seriously found myself wondering why every nameless goon in the entire franchise have only every been men, I mean it's the end of the world guys are you really gunna risk failing your supply run because women not know how fight? It just feels plain stupid.

After you win, because it goes just like every other fight you've been in since the start of the game, the quest giver get's upset at you for ruining women's chances of being accepted then tells you to f-word off. It really felt like the weirdest hypothetical made by maiden-less incels for the sole purpose of pointing a finger at the angry feminist archetype for a cheap laugh. This isn't the only, or first, example of atrocious writing in the dlc so far, but after all the time I spent making fun of the scene introducing Lawan's character, this just felt like another cheap knee to the groin.

The first character you meet is so deeply annoying I was actually verbally bashing my monitor for showing me such garbage. When I found out I didn't get to kill him early in the dlc, but instead had to listen to him brag on and on about how good he was at killing only to get kidnapped, I had to put my head down and groan at the knowledge that I would interact with him again. Oh yeah, wanna know the driving force of the dlc's story? Finding and rescuing a character so hate-able I would have paid an extra 10 bucks for a version of the dlc where I could at least kick his inferior pompous a-word off a tall building.

All in all, this is a torturous experience broken up with short, but deeply satisfying segments of actual game-play. I don't know where techland found their writers, but they belong in some s-wordy fandom far from a product that costs money. The gameplay itself is f-wording fantastic as usual however, and just like I'm going to keep playing in the open world until another parkour zombie killing sim comes along, I am also going to both finish and replay this terrible terrible dlc multiple times.

I want to kms every time a character speaks, but hey, at least I get to take it out on nameless drones with some of the best feeling combat and movement systems of any game in history.

7/10

Big fan of the series. I ran into a soft block glitch that won't let me beat the main story, still put in another 50 hours after that point and I'm likely not going to stop playing until they come out with a third game.

Every character is written like a brick made out of sheer archetype and fecal matter. The story is just about un-enjoyable and it only took me a couple missions to start skipping all the dialogue. Your choices don't have much weight at all and there's plenty of repeated gameplay loops in the open sandbox. I love it.

This is not a story game. This is a do wall runs and kick zombies in their ♥♥♥♥ game. The action is all that matters but oh dear lord did they get the action right. The movement might take getting used to but it's tight as hell and there's a good reason I've put more hours into this game than my job lately. The freerunning and combat ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ slap.

Go pick up a lead pipe and lay it down on some fools then do a kickflip off their face onto a roof top. Better with friends.

I put over 1000 hours into this bad boy when I was an inferior ps4 player. I have done just about every thing there is to do in this game more than once. I've laughed with friends, I've raged about enemies, I've felt all the feels this gem can provide.

After my Playstation's hard drive died I lost it all, and I'm almost grateful for it, because now I get to do it all over again.

Play this.

Early Access Review
I love this game, but I can't be too biased in my review. If you are looking for a game that is engaging and sucks you in with out letting you go, this game is for you! This is one of those games that makes you feel real fear when you are starving but you can't survive the storm outside your empty shack, and you feel immense joy and satisfaction when you find a hunting rifle under a bridge. This is by far the most real game I have ever played, it all makes sense and will have you rethinking your initial expectations of how well you would survive in a real situation like this. Now that I have explained just a few vague reasons that you should buy this game, it is time for some warnings... I sent the first five hours of my time playing this game building a save that I could feel proud of, I was so happy with this game that I forced a friend of mine to make is own new game to see how long he would survive. After he died after just 10 minutes I felt proud to have made it 2 days on my save, later that night I tried to load up my game but I came to the horrifying realization that there is only one save. I lost my game without any warning. There are a few smaller bugs that need to be fixed but I feel that this is one of the biggest problems with this great game, I think this game is more than worth it and I understand that it is still in development so I just want to report the problems that need fixing. For those that read this (very few) and were discouraged by this problem, I can promise you that this is one of the greatest games I have ever played, and I have been playing games since I could use a keyboard. There, I gave you some of the good and bad in a nice good bad good sandwich, I truly hope you support this game by purchasing it. Enjoy!
