Destiny. A franchise conceptually trying to balance itself between being an FPS game and an evolving MMORPG. It'll likely never find said balance, and It'll likely be a sore spot for players until the end of time. It's tough trying to give people the power fantasy an RPG would give, without sacrificing some of what makes FPS games fun.
As such, this is a casual RPG game with some respect for your time, if you like grinding for good loot but don't have all the time in the world. And it's a casual FPS game, with a variety of easy to use weapons and abilities which accomodates to a lot of people's tastes in gunplay, without being too unforgiving.
To be fair, if this either your first FPS or MMORPG game, you should probably give it a try. Since it's free!
As a newcomer, the experience can be a little overwhelming, by Bungie kinda messing up the initial grind patch veteran players had, in order to hook you into new content right away.
I'd Heavily recommend you to at least play the Red War campaign, as it sets the main context the universe is now set on. However, there is a Lot of extra lore, yet it's easy to pick up, if you're willing to read lore entries. It'll help a bunch at understanding current and future events. But it's alright if you skip all of it to shoot stuff for fun instead.
Bring friends! Most of the fun and rewarding content requires playing in a fireteam, though watered down versions of said activities are matchmade. Your experience may vary!
Destiny 2 appears to be a serious game, but that's deceptive, because it gets quite silly at times. Sometimes the writing is On Point with cosmical events, the history of noble races struggling to survive, etc. Then it throws you cute interactions between the world and it's characters, as well as leaving you scraching your head thinking "Is this godlike entity really writing fanfiction of us?". It does gets weird sometimes.
I am purely rambling here. There are a lot of comprehensive reviews here which are not copy-pasted from Reddit (have fun guessing which ones are tho).
Give it a try, spend maybe 100 hours on it (it's an MMO, remember?) shoot bad guys, make friends or clanmates, play PvP, raid a bunch of times, and see if this game sticks with you. You may like it.

Begin. Think fast.
Try again. Be aware of your surroundings.
Try again. Learn every single pattern each level has, and how can the game combines them.
Try again. Think faster!
Try again. Don´t panic! Relax.
Try again. Improve your best time!
Try again. Don´t give up!
Try again. Have fun!

This game´s logic isn´t too far away from a bullet hell. There´s no choice in-game, you do what you HAVE TO, otherwise you already lost.
You may get frustrated from time to time, but this game´s beauty always leaves you looking for more.
I sincerely recommend this game to everyone with some reflexes, and good music taste.
