They made a 3d monster merge game. If it's less than 20 on release I'm buying it.

If you find sarcasm with an edge of committed story telling you'll like High on Life.

The Bounty Hunter, your protag, received upgrades and tools throughout the game that more often than not has a face and unique personality. The gun you have out not only has a unique power but fun synergies that start to add a pleasant trickle of power until you're stopping time, mind controlling someone, while splattering green goo all over those G3 bastards, and playing hot potato with a flying flaming saw blade. The interactions are quirky, and often have more depth than is portrayed due to the occasional cold in the center hot and tasty comedy that is non-stop. I think that's fine for an interactive experience where if one gun is starting to wear me down I can just switch to someone else.

I think it's best to focus on the main story and go for collectibles after you have unlocked creature. Then you'll have a bunch of puzzles you can engage with and start to farm some warp crystals. It's very comedy rich, and might turn some folks off that can't see the intentions of the characters past the dark comedy. Definitely one of my faves in a while, looking forward to HoL2, we need more sci-fi alien shooters.

The best story / choices matter game I've played.

Early Access Review
Finished the first-level after the demo.

Definitely a good decompress game–I'll be putting it on after a long workday or just before bed.

Very Poorly optimized. Even with everything turned off it can't be played at a solid frame rate.

I've been able to eek out some time by lowering the resolution to 720 and setting everything to low or off. However, the story is a bit not epic so far.

This is ridiculous.

Buy it for $5, it's basically DLC for SR4.

It's around 4 hours long at most and is pretty forgettable, with a fun power set compared to SR4.

I intend to go back to it to finish the sandbox for cheevo's.

Expands on probably one of the best sub-stories in the game with the LARP mechanics.

It's like a cleaner version of SR3 when it comes to gameplay and content.

Definitely a bit different, but it still has glorious violence and cartoonish humor. Pretty lacking in the sex humor, no gimp suit or dildo bat from my first pass. However, that being retired along with Genki bowl isn't inherently bad, but locking a murderbowl activity behind dlc is a bit scuzzy.

To address this...

Some of the folks giving this a negative review are fans disappointed we didn't get a follow-up to Gat out of Hell. I sympathize, and would have really liked to have see an SR5 time traveling adventure, but that just wasn't in the cards as disappointing as that is.

Here are the pointers that bring down the game as a SR fan:
- The characters fail to break the mold of their archetypes.
In SR2: Gat, Shaundi, and Pierce mattered—Carlos and his sacrifice mattered.
Gwen, Neena, and Kev needed a stronger connection to the gangs they represent.
Also, Eli, probably needed more of a hook than, "a dude that read a self-help book."
- The dialogue is very Millenial.
This is not something that bothers me, I can chuckle at crappy Sitcom humor, but my tolerance for any kind of questionable writing is pretty high. It's the same issue I had with SR3 when it came out, it's very guided towards folks in their late 20's / early 30's. Which would work if the audience wasn't Saint's Row fans with very different expectations.
- Minor to Major technical glitches.
They have made the game way better over the last year+ since the release, but minor glitches are expected. I have yet to experience anything game breaking, but it's well documented online.

To me, it's not bad, but in the same way you can drudge through the parts you don't like of an annual assassin's creed release.

The others upset are weird Gamergate dudes pedojacketing NPCs and claiming this game caused someone to die or is woke. One person I watched said the booby slider not being included was an afront to the franchise, which I hesitantly file into the changing modern sensibilities corner. I remember SR3 was hated on launch on the Volition forums because of the wild turn towards absurdity. This is closer to SR2 in it's approach in setting the series tone, and that's fine, but it's definitely subdued in character development.

So, perfect for $20 - $30.
