Early Access Review
Starting off with this: I am going to compare this to the star child with the golden ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, Stardew Valley.

YOU...YOU ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ STARDEW VALLEY WANNABE CLONES. THIS IS HOW YOU DO FARMING. Watering my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ plants shouldn't be a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tedious, all-day event that drains my stamina to nothing. I shouldn't have to hold a button and have my character look like he's about to ♥♥♥♥ his pants to water more than one tile only to have to run back to a river to refill my watering can. The farming and plant-growing in Traveler's Rest is great; It's not tedious, it's fulfilling enough and it doesn't take away from the core concept of the game: Running a tavern.

NPC Wise you have two types: Fleshed out NPC's and Non-Essential, background NPCs. Your clientele, your workers (Yes, you can hire wage-slaves to help you out) and the majority of the NPC's you find in cities and other points of interest are all non-essential. They may have names, they have some funny, repetitive dialogue but all in all they are just part of the scenery.

Story-wise, Traveler's Rest isn't really all there yet. The NPC's are kind of lame as of current, but the BBEG(s) are apparent and seem to be fleshed out enough, at least as much as something like the golden child mentioned above. Your clientele have a few strings of dialogue that they'll spew on occasion and your workers are just mindless robots who occasionally need to be beaten to get back to work.

Gameplay wise this is great. You cook food, brew drinks and grow ingredients to feed the bottomless gullets of those who wander into your establishment.

There is one big con to this game though. The tutorial is long, almost uncomfortably long, like taking a ♥♥♥♥ in a public toilet. It teaches you the core mechanics of the game, introduces some characters, namely some teenage-angst filled cat-ghost that haunts your every move (and also guides you through the tutorial and has some PLOT IMPORTANCE).

10/10 for artwork, the style is consecutive and easy on the eyes
6/10 for the story + NPCs so far, it's still in early access and obviously not complete
10/10 for gameplay; Traveler's Rest knows what it is, what it wants to be and doesn't stray from that
10/10 for sound design; Sound and music matches the atmosphere and isn't grating

Overall rating: 90%

I'm not a fan of most RPG games and I generally loathe turn-based combat but ♥♥♥♥ me in the ass and call me Jesus this game is solid.
Story is great
Characters are great
Combat is pretty okay
Puzzles are a little lacking. Not hard in the slightest but not bad either. Minimal challenge for the smoothbrains out there.

The idea sounds funny but holy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bland. Seems to be made on the budge of a shoe string and an old pack of 5 Gum but the old pack of five gum is completely stale; Has none of the feel of five gum just a small hint of what it could have been.

The jokes are bland, the memes are forced and the gameplay is more like The Energizer Bunny. It's been done over and over and over and over and over again.

Solid game so far. Feels like they should have released as early access, though simultaneously the game also feels complete.

Yea, so as of writing this there are a few negative reviews.

One cries about the annoying voice lines; The voice is grating, sorry for whoever was the voice actor on that, some sound editing might actually help that a bit. The voice isn't so annoying that it ruins the game though.

Another cries about the physics, but from what I encountered, the physics are pretty solid in terms of predictability so I don't know what that person is referencing.

And another complains about optimization. To the dev(s): Some asset and shader optimization should fix that in Unity if you haven't gone that route yet. There are a few good articles and discussions on Unity's forums for dealing with this specifically.

The final negative review is just there to be negative.

For a free game and assuming that this is the dev's first game, this isn't bad and it's better than a lot of the slop you'll see on the "Free Games" section of Steam.

It's relatively short but for 20 bucks it's solid. If you liked Viscera Cleanup Detail you'll like this.

An Honest Review
As much as I would LOVE to give this a thumbs up and say, "Yea, great improvement from the previous editions? I'd suck this game's ♥♥♥♥ if it had one, you know gay for pay?", I just can't. There are a few glaring issues.

No Jiggle Physics
The character customization is highly lacking for a game as supposedly in depth for a simulator game in 2025. I mean, come on, it's a game from the future and it still has no body sliders? To add insult to injury, no matter how busty you are nor how bumpy your dumpy it don't jiggle nor do it wiggle. It don't move, it don't shmove. It's as solid as Kevin Spacey at the YMCA.

No Hard Drugs
What kind of backwater farmer am I supposed to be? What kind of righteous ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ am I? No crack plants? No coke leaves? No opium to fuel the crisis? At least there are some mods by some very fine people that allow me to celebrate the freedom of liberal 'Merica.

No Love For Ram Ranch

The Most Grievous Issue
At no point, can you, even after purchasing an entire FLOCK of them, pet the dog.

Cute, feels more like a mobile game, but nab it if it's on sale.
Decent "Connect The Pipes" type of game.

Pros:
*) Runs smoothly, haven't run into any framerate issues though I'm on a dev machine so this would be expected
*) Cute animal people uwu
*) Mostly easy to understand mechanics
*) Solid character creator for making your own, special, donut steal character
*) Music is pretty solid but also see below
*) Devs are responsive and actively engaged (for the moment)
*) Cute aesthetic, the game knows what it wants to be and seems to be delivering on that.

Cons:
*) It's early access, so bugs are expected and there are a handful, though I've not run into game-breaking ones yet.
*) Some of the townies / critters / whatever you want to call them are off-putting to look at.
*) There's a severe lack of violence
*) Some UI features are annoying, lacking or features missing that should be there (IE: Buying in bulk is a pain in the ass)
*) Music is kind of repetitive and gets grating after a while

Progress probably isn't going to happen now. Take2 laid off the team working on this to save a few dollars. I guess there wasn't enough micro-transactions. https://www.ign.com/articles/take-two-shutters-kerbal-space-program-2-studio-amid-layoffs
