I've had my eye on this one since I saw it announced in a Nintendo Direct, so I was excited to try it. Didn't get to try the demo, and I've hardly played for long, but here are my thoughts.

I can appreciate the character this game is trying to convey. 80s/90s rock aesthetics combined with scifi space exploration sounds like a done deal for me.
The hoverboarding is STUPIDLY fun. It's a bit strange to get the hang of, but once you do (which doesn't take long) you'll find you're breezing through the overworld in record time and doing tricks not just to speed yourself up, but because they're satisfying to do anyway.

One gripe I have is that it feels like the game is missing a degree of polish to it. The foundations are here for a really damn good time but there's little snags that hold it back noticeably. Stiff animations (especially on BIOS), wonky combat and somewhat outdated looking models are the standouts for me at the moment.

EDIT:
Having updated my drivers and progressed a bit further in the game, there are some positives to report but my stance is largely the same.

The lack of polish certainly remains a drawback in my eyes. Wherever I turn it feels like there's sound effects missing for certain actions, or what sound effects are there lack a sense of "oomph" to them. BIOS, again, suffers pretty hard from a lack of animation - he barely emotes, and outside of the cutscenes I don't think the poor guy changed his facial expression once, not even when he was lying on the ground like a ragdoll after getting knocked off his board.

From the looks of things the devs put more effort into the sparkly bells and whistles than some of the actual fundamentals of the game. Speaking of the sparkly bits, I've found my first Star Overdrive tapes, which are in-game music tracks you can play from the menu whilst exploring the world. That's an adorable touch, one I'm a big fan of.

The combat gets a little bit less wonky and a bit more frantic once you unlock your first two abilities (the grabby-pully one and the ranged attack). It's a lot of fun messing with your enemies by grabbing them and flinging them far away from you to do damage, and it invites new ways to strategise mid-battle... even if the abilities themselves make your basic attacks feel somewhat trivial.

The overworld is certainly massive, I'll give the game that, but I hardly find myself wanting to explore much of it since everything looks strikingly similar. Just about everywhere I look it's sandy beige and dusty orange, with big metal loops jutting out of the ground and no real interesting landmarks outside of this one big walled-off area I noticed.

Out of the two "shrines" I completed, neither felt particularly intriguing or immersive, but perhaps that's to be expected given that they're tutorial shrines for your new abilities.

Overall though, I'm still a fan of what I'm seeing. Would recommend
