Reviewing it in its current state (Nightly build from 21/12/23, not live 0.11.2)

I've followed this game for many many years, read all the plans, all the blog posts; after having my doubts, I refunded my closed alpha keys (literally just because I didn't wanna risk losing the money we paid for the double barrel bundle).

I think I owe it to the developers to give an honest review. Yes, I want this game to succeed, but it's important to give the good, the bad and the ugly so you know what you're in for.

At the time of refunding, I believed Dead Matter to have an uncertain future. Developers left, made comments publicly about working for QI and how their management sucks. I think its clear that it does suck. However, how things are running at QI seems more streamlined now. Less "Professional" in a sense, yet things seem to be getting pushed out quicker, and feedback is taken seriously. I personally have had a few of my points taken into consideration and changed, plus the lead dev himself has worked with me to get the FPS up to a more playable standard very quickly.

Dead matter is a flop currently, but in the future I think you'll all be wanting to play, because it does indeed have potential. I think it's very obvious the lead dev does not want to abandon this project and that is definitely admirable. I'd suggest checking their Discord. You can see all the commits and everything they're working on daily.

The game is definitely slowly but surely progressing in a positive direction. FPS is now playable for me. Averaging 55-85fps on Ultra with an RTX 3080 & 3700x at 1440p on singleplayer.

Gameplay is all sorts of wobbly, buggy and sometimes annoying, but the base is definitely there to be worked on (which most certainly is!). Gunplay has a good feel, not perfect, but with a little work it can be where it needs to be.

The graphics are amazing and will only get better down the line. Indoor lighting is even better and borderlines on being photorealistic. I haven't touched base building or claiming a house since 0.6, so I can't comment on that. The main stuff that matters to me is whether the zombies feel right, whether gunplay is enjoyable, whether multiplayer works well and whether it runs good currently.

The game at this price point would make sense in a few months after updates, so I would personally wait to see what's been cooking :)

Game is full of absolute ♥♥♥♥♥. Laggy as anything in Wars & barely playable as a musket player due to low FPS (even on a high end PC), Tanks that think they're gods gift to the world, people that get salty when you win them in PvP. I honestly think the community was better at release. Now people are just bothered about their egos in outpost rush and barely do anything with their companies anymore.

I like the game, but in terms of progression I just kinda gave up after I got 65k population. I don't see a reason to keep going after that. In terms of replay-ability there's not much there. I don't personally want to restart my game to play on a different map. The game isn't that hard and it would just be the same thing but slightly different.

Not for me in the end. Was very addicting for 16 hours but it died off after that.
