New to the series, and it didn't hook me in. It looks dated, and nothing you're asked to do is any fun.
But to be more specific, they expect me to care for a guy and his family (MY family I suppose?) from 10 minutes of pointless interaction, and then cram so much ♥♥♥♥ into the first two hours while still feeling like a sluggish game. You kill a bunch of people and go up a building and suddenly you're the boss of the militia! 200 years after the start of the game, within two hours!
Obviously something just doesn't click with me because it's very succesful, but I wonder how much of that success came from pure hype.

Anyway, it didn't make an impression.

I'm not really one for roguelike top-downs. This review is heavily biased. For the little time I played this game I still have to find joy.

What you're reading this for:
+ The game looks as good or better than the images above, which were surely what brough you to check it out. Trust me, it's gorgeous, it's everything you thought it'd be.
+ It has deep, rewarding, visceral, insanely well thought movement system.
+ Amazing soundtrack and art design.
-/+ You'll restart a single checkpoint over and over which ruins the feel of flowy momentum of running around. There's going to be one jump in ever level that'll test your patience. But you'll end up liking the way you hone your skill by repeating it.
- Very short single player.
- The animated cutscenes seem forced in and depart from the overall style of the game.
- Trial and error.

This is my favorite game. Of all the ones I've played, this is my favorite. It feels very physical to run around and you actually gain momentum the longer the run-up to a jump is. Not only that, but DICE didn't even just pitch an idea and fill the rest of the 12 hours of the campaign with whatever... oh no no no. Ever level and stage is carefully though through with design and graphics and location of the enemies. Faith is a slender, quick cat and the game makes an excellent job of making you feel like one yourself, but never powerful, always weak, oportunistic, wathcing for where the soldiers are. Except when they're aware of exactly where you are and you are trying to grab the tiny pipe on the ledge while avoiding contact with buckshot.
I think this game was an amazing premise brought down slightly by some marketing representative who insisted that market research demanded shooting things.

This is a superb game.

Rockstar put a very palpable amount of effort into keeping the core of the franchise alive in this installment. The same introverted monologues while you walk around and cinema-noir feel to the game is there, even if you're surrounded by palmtrees and bright sunlight filtering through bikinis.
The story is just dense enough to drive the rails of the game and keep you interested in what happens to the characters as it unfolds, and does a bloody good job of pulling you right in.
