Dune: Awakening is a game full of promise let down by a lack of finishing touches and care or passion by the developers.

PvPvE balance is dependent on the demographic and population of your server. There is no PvP content in the true sense, any content has to be generated by the players themselves. However the game features that would help with this are non-existent. Leaving players to build their own arenas and try to host fights with no game-led rewards or progression.

PvE players are excluded from late-game progression and experiences unless they are prepared to enter the open world PvP zone, the deep desert. Which is where the toughest NPCs/PvE events are. However lazy game design and a developer weirdly resistant to embracing change results in your standard griefing area. This results in a complete absence of PvP and groups looking purely for solo/smaller groups to ambush for no purpose beyond causing frustration.

There is promise here, it's one of the better attempts at blending the mmo/survival base building genres yet. But when your most critical piece of UI when flying is hard-locked to a sandy colour in a game where everything is a variety of the same colour with no method to improve the visibility of something which frequently becomes nigh-invisible. You are left wondering, if Funcom have a "it's good enough" attitude until they can release the next movie tie-in.

If they can polish the game, show they value the small details and start valueing the time/money of those not inclined to participate in griefing or with busy lives. Then it will be a positive review.

Update
--------

After a month of having help cases ignored and seeing griefers, exploiters and RMT accounts increase dramatically on my server. I've only swung more towards a negative view of the game. I doubt I will be playing much more unless Funcom respond to the loss of items to server issues etc.

Early Access Review
I love this game already even in early access you can tell that it has the building blocks of something amazing. It is in need of addressing some performance issues and adding more variety of gear. However those are to be expected of a game at this stage of it's release. I've played Tarkov since the very first alpha and compared to that and its current state after years Gray Zone is already in a positive position.

If Gray Zone can work on getting the same number of mods/weapons as Tarkov and add some more points of interest across the map. Tarkov won't stand a chance in its present state and Gray Zone will become the no1 extraction shooter around.

The base game is solid if a little over-run with heavy weaponary and equipment. This could be a very smooth and enjoyable game but it is let down by the developers decisions. Eventually they will turn you off the game and cause you regret putting any money into it.

I enjoyed the game then I was banned because fairfight said I was a hacker. They would not unban me, I went to other independent bodies and I was unbanned but all my stuff was removed as a last act of spite. This is not a rare story it is the norm for the game and seems to be a case of "If we ban them they'll buy another account". That being said the game is full of hackers so you'll die a lot. The developers have been known to give out the best weapons to their favourites, they ban people who kill their characters in fair fights(see the youtube videos on this. They are in short corrupt and unwilling to do anything other than bleed players dry.

They will change the map, make items you purchased and placed on the map unreachable(that you paid money for) and then not give you the items or refund the cost.

In short go buy the DayZ standalone and save yourself the hassle. You might get some good gametime out of this game but you will have to be very lucky.
