A great majority of the issues I previously had with the game have for the most part been addressed and the developers have been incredibly responsive to community feedback. I understand if some people would still like to wait a year even for even more updates and content, because they will be adding much more.

But at this point I do feel like I can confidently say that in it's current state the game is still fantastic and will have you encapsulated for many hours. I have probably around 150-170 played hours with the rest being afk and I am still not done with the game, although I am obviously in the endgame chapters. I would definitely recommend playing this game as it is right now. But if you want the most content rich and tuned experience, then I would give it most likely until the end of this year.

Overall I enjoyed this game even though some of the mechanics are seem kind of pointless if you are just trying to finish the game. Base building for example just isn't even needed as you carry EVERYTHING on yourself and the map is so huge and takes so long to get around that if you did set up a base at the beginning, then you will almost never really be going back to it as there is simply no point. You are pretty much only surviving for the aesthetic of it rather than the actual need to survive. Resources respawn per load and you will be completely kitted out with excess gear before you know it. The struggle of surviving just doesn't hit like other survival games. Maybe if things were more brutal at night and you felt more punished for not being in a base, then maybe that would be a start. But it's just as simple as putting a tarp down with a couple sticks and that will get you through the whole game.

You might get jumped by a couple of cannibals when you try to sleep here and there, but nothing that was ever to hard to deal with. A bow quickly dispatches them with ease. It just saddens me to not have building be more incentivized as I would like because the building aspect is well executed and feels satisfying, and there are a ton of different things from building a cabin from scratch to making electricity. But with no reason to engage with most of the systems, I simply didn't.

The mutant designs are really cool and grotesque, your first few hours going into caves and experiencing encounters with these freaks are pretty tense and scary, especially if solo. A plethora of different gear and items to discover throughout the playthrough. And some of the best building mechanics I have seen in a survival game. (Even when there is no reason to engage with it, it's still fleshed out.)

It simply became a slog of spending a half hour hiking across the map, looking things up online because some things are simply not explained very well such as the blueprints you place into your notes that don't have any explanation as to what they do. This game has all the bones there (No pun intended) for the best survival game. But simply no meat to fill them out. (Pun intended) Hopefully the next game gives more purpose to it's systems. I wish steam had a mixed rating, but alas I am on the fence.

It was pretty good, but not worth $40 bruh. Ez Refund after finishing the game.
