It's like puzzle bobble / bust-a-move but a short little roguelike. i have some quibbles like how the teleportation wizard absolutely sucks on the hard difficulty, but at this price point I'm not really gonna complain.

just buy it and try it for yourself already, it costs less than public transit.

I found myself on a ship armed with only a teleporter and two wrenches.

between me and my rescue target, there were 5 men, all standing around an automated turret that would shoot me on sight.

So, I did what anyone would do in that situation. I teleported next to the turret, turned it off, knocked out two of the guards with my wrenches, picked up one of their swords, threw my wrenches at two of the remaining guards, and threw my new sword at the remaining guard, all within the span of 2 seconds.

that is what this game is about.

I got this game as part of a humble bundle years ago and I still get pissed off when I see it in my library. let me catalogue what I remember from my experience.

in the opening the game tries really hard to get you to care for poor little Melrose, bullied by bullies with no substance and abused by parents with no anything. because of her of so tragic backstory she does some BS and gets sucked into the world of her imagination or something.

this is the point at which combat starts, and dear god is it dull. all I ever did was hold the fast forward button and mash confirm. interesting gameplay you will not find here.

eventually Melrose encounters this timid girl with green and black hair. now, with her tragic backstory, how do you think our oh so engaging protagonist would treat her? wrong, she immediately starts pushing her around and bullying her, because that's a logical course of action to take.

this is about as far as i got though, as after this the game softlocked me because i didn't explore every inch of the map before trying to progress.

1/10, i'm genuinely upset that the devs got any of my money. do not buy.

Really quite an amazing game. when playing through episode two, i messed up. It didn't feel like it was the character's error, it was MY error and I genuinely felt sad, like I wasn't good enough. Dontnod really did a good job on this one.
