I really wish I could give the game a good review. the gameplay loop isn't terrible but it lacks any kind of depth. If it wasn't for the story I would probably recommend it. 1.0 made things feel a lot smoother and made it feel a bit more worth it to actually do the POIs you come across.

The basic gameplay loop doesn't ever really change. You just feed things to your research bench to make upgrades and get small bonuses. Upgrading benches just lets you make the next couple items with new materials that are suddenly floating around in space once you research them. The only changes in things is automating some of the tasks with your little guys but then you just get stuck more and more with clicking on every resource gatherer then every chest and repeat until you make it to the next station. The arena is always the same, the puzzles are always the same and not very good, stations are also always the same aside form story stations.

The story is rough. up until chapter 3 it's decent, nothing amazing but it was a bit interesting. Chapter 3 was just nonsense though. No idea what even happened. it was a bunch of unexplained random events and the ending made no sense. Also felt like the gameplay did not matter. your train was just there to get you from story element to story element, your upgrades, items, and weapons did not matter at all for the story. You could play almost the entire story without engaging in the crafting, train, weapons, etc.

overall, I had some fun. Wasn't ever really satisfied and was always left wanting a bit more from the game. It feels like it's almost there but not really ready for 1.0. I think I could recommend it if the story was better, the gameplay had more depth, or the environments were more varied, interesting, or interactable. I hope they keep working on the game after release.
