Early Access Review
At the two hour mark, the game has really solid bones, and I expect it will only get better with time. Devs are the infamous developers of Battle Brothers which at this point is an ancient game and has been getting updates as recently as late last year. Presuming this game gets similar support, the value is definitely there.

So I beat the game, not the expansion, just the base game, check my playtime for an idea of what a typical playthrough might take.

This is not a fun game, if you are going into this looking to have a "good time" or "relax" you are wrong. This game isn't relaxing, nor is it a good time, it is a challenge first and foremost. You need to approach the game with that in mind if you want to actually enjoy it.

Unlike many of the other reviewers I would encourage you not to use a pre-made character from a website. However, you should spend some time reading up about the mechanics of the game on the wiki before starting. Outside of certain edge cases the game does not reward "Meme" builds.

You will need the ability to deal lots of damage with a variety of damage types, ways to either absorb or evade damage and a character which can make use of crafting to create items which are superior to what you can buy/loot.

You will die in this game, sometimes repeatedly, for the most part if your build is doing everything I mentioned above, all encounters are winnable with enough attempts. If they are not, reload your save and go do something else, then come back with more levels.

In many ways this game is like life, its difficult, unforgiving and often times just unfair, but there is a path forward, a way to achieve victory, you just have to put in the effort to take that path, and when you do, you might just have a "good time" after all.
