Edit:

It's fun again

Old review below:

Got this game a week or so ago, played it for a while and had lots of fun, really wanted to play as much as i could to unlock all the fun strategems and guns, the high difficulties were extremely difficult but very possible with the right team and gear, yet mostly we would barely survive and extract successfully. I had high hopes that this game was headed in the right direction, even with the bugs people had to deal with (mostly connection issues, being kicked randomly from the game, crashes, not being able to login, not being able to play with friends sometimes). I was very impressed that microtransactions weren't front and center unlike a lot of modern games, and it seemed the developers were interested in making and keeping the game fun for players.

There were rumors of a big patch coming out soon that would hopefully add more fun content to the game and fix some serious issues (random crashing, matchmaking issues, etc). Instead we got alot of weapons and armor nerfs, to the point that the game no longer feels justifiably difficult but unenjoyably impossible at the high difficulty levels. Personally i find nerfs to be strange on a PvE game, but the fact that they didn't really give many actual buffs or introduce new content makes it seem as if they did this just to spite the playerbase. Further research on this topic will show you that the developers of this game may actually be getting enjoyment out of this, and this type of mindset really destroys my optimism for this game. I'm sure you can easily google the comments made by the developers as a result of the backlash of this patch, and read how other players are interpreting the mindset of the developers.

Perhaps its too early to tell, but if the developers really don't value the opinion of the players, and continue to artificially make the game more difficult for their "enjoyment", then I really don't have much hope for the future of this game. I sincerely hope they take the valid criticism from the players into account and get back on the right path of making the game more fun. Unfortunately, I doubt they will listen if people keep spending money on this game, and perhaps they won't even care to listen to the current players since they already extracted money from them. I bought this with the super citizen bundle because I really wanted to support what I thought were caring developers. That $60 stings a bit when you realize your fun can easily be destroyed by developers prone to emotional outbursts.

Anyway, I don't recommend you spend money on this right now until we wait and see if the developers can own up to their mistakes and change their mindset or if they will continue to ignore their playerbase to their detriment. Unfortunately I think the only way to make them listen will be through not supporting them financially, so do not spend money on this game until we see the developers change their response.

If you do decide to get the game, its still fun on the lower difficulties with your friends, but you will reach a point where you can't upgrade your ships fully as the upgrade materials are only found on higher difficulties which are now much less enjoyable to play. Either way, do your own research and see what conclusions you come up with. I'm still optimistic as I believe the developers have an industry-changing game on their hands, as long as they can learn how to keep the game fun.

People may enjoy the combat system but I don't. You feel like a tank in the worst way in regards to movement. The story isn't very interesting, and the general atmosphere is quite depressing. I don't enjoy having a general feeling of disorientation since there is no accesible map.

Overall, not my kind of game. I feel that people may enjoy it because of the challenge and not because the gameplay is actually fun.

It just wasn't fun. The most fun part of these types of games is usually the combat. The second part would be finding cool items through scavenging that can be put to use (especially in combat). There is no real combat in this game. Managing people isn't very fun, and the UI seems a little cluttered at times.
