Played the demo, absolutely adored it. Picked up the full game and had an absolute blast. The humor, art style, well polished mechanics... everything is so well done here. And it is just about the right length. Absolutely recommend this to anyone that looks at the trailer or plays the demo and thinks "♥♥♥♥ yeah this is for me" lol

Really enjoying this game so far. There's some reviews claiming its not an RPG, is shallow, etc. as well as a bunch of numpties in the discussions claiming the game is woke and bad because of that... Idk how any of those statements make any sense to anyone lol. It feels very much like a classic RPG heavily inspired by games like Morrowind and I haven't seen anything particularly "woke" at all (not that it would even matter to me if I did lol). What I have seen is a lot of very interesting worldbuilding, cool quests and storylines, and an utterly unique world that pulls you in. Combat is a bit simplistic - again like the classic RPGs that its inspired by - and compared to some modern games it might come across a little simple in its mechanics, but honestly, if that's what it takes to get an interesting set of stories in a world that actually feels like someone cares about it - then that's an okay trade to me.

Tried getting into the game a few times on release on another platform, but really never did. Had a weird craving to try it out again so picked up the DE on steam and had the same thing happen. Now, months later, tried again and its finally clicked...

Its one of those games... its not for everyone, and it might take a few attempts to get into it, but once you do its very rewarding and offers something a bit different than most of the other RPGs out there. Kinda feels like a half way point between something like Fable and Kenshi. Here's hoping they keep this up with #2!

So like... I'm 10 hours in and I have no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idea what I'm doing, I've made very little progress, and honestly I don't even know how the hell I'm supposed to fix that... but... I don't know what it is - something about the game makes me want to play more... Its so unique and strange and I think I understand why so many people are obsessed with this... Take that as a ringing endorsement or blatant disapproval depending on the sort of gamer you are I guess lol

This game honestly surprised me. I don't remember why I picked it up but after playing it, I am super glad I did. It feels like the right amount of homage to the old adventure games (Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, etc.) with some modern game design sensibilities and theming. I really enjoyed my time with it.

And I want to make a special note of both the art, which is incredibly well done - able to depict so much with so few pixels - and the music, which is also incredible.

Overall, just an excellent game that is definitely worth giving a go!

Let me start off by saying I loved, absolutely LOVED, My Time At Portia, so I went into this with pretty high hopes. I didn't play it properly for a very long time, first waiting for 1.0 to come out and then life just got in the way so only gotten to it this year. And while I'm having a good time... I feel like this game needed a lot more love and care to really be worth playing, especially with its highly inflated release pricetag (they almost doubled the price overnight).

So firstly, if you have played Portia you know more or less what to expect here in terms of how the general flow works. You interact with townfolk, get missions to build them things, have to go get resources and make the stuff to give them and so on. That formula is still here. Sandrock, the town, its cute and feels like it is fairly well laid out, and most of the NPCs are well written and interesting/distinct in their own way. There's a lot of representation of different types of people and that's all great. Unfortunately thats mostly where the praise ends as the game is marred by all sorts of bugs, and there's also a lot of places where its clear the development was sort of rushed at the end.

So bugs... in the 50ish hours I've played so far I have had NPCs disappearing and teleporting all over the play in front of me. This went on for about 8 hours of gameplay, including through restarting the game. NPCs would just be standing somewhere (instead of walking like they normally do) and then they would fade out and appear at another part of town. This would happen as I would walk up to them, but also just randomly. It was incredibly frustrating and I'm glad it stopped but I have no idea why it happened. CHecking the discussions threads, lots of other people mentioned this happening over the years and it looks like it was never addressed.

The UI will often bug out, showing "new" items when there aren't any. I've had quests where I get mail from a NPC telling me "hey lets do <thing> tomorrow at <time>". Instead of it happening tomorrow it will sometimes take 3 or 4 days to happen, which is frustrating when you are meant to plan around all the things you have to do and quests. There have been instances where I've been fighting monsters, and for some reason one of the monsters will just be invincible. As far as I know this is not intended - its not like it was a high level monster. For instance I've had a level 10 trash mob around my farm that I've killed dozens of time, and even when I'm level 30 and using weapons appropriate to my level, it will just randomly never take damage. Most of these bugs aren't game breaking - but this is just a few of them and they happen pretty consistently, which sort of paints the picture of a game that was rushed at the 11th hour, which is super disappointing.

Beyond the bugs, there's some design choices that I feel are misses. For one - there is a LOT of combat in the game, and the combat system is pretty "okay" and not much more. If it were a more enjoyable system, then more combat would be great, but with it being just serviceable, I'm pretty tired of it. Another design issue I think here is that you h ave to travel so far to do things a lot of the time, and there's really not much to do while travelling. It feels like the developers wanted a big world, without really having a reason for it. There is a mount system, but its not much faster and the animations for getting on and off it are very cumbersome and slow, so it also feels bad to use. Just a lot of things like this - where I can see what they were going for, but it feels like no one really took the time to take on feedback or maybe they weren't given time at the end of development to incorporate it.

This unfinished feeling can also be felt in the world - where there are a LOT of places where you think there is going to be something, but there isnt'. You could be walking through the desert just to hit an invisible wall, or heading to a canyon that looks really interesting, only for it to actually be a dead end blocked off before you can even go in. There's a lot of places where it feels like they built out areas to "finish off later" but never did. Another place it can be felt is int he voice acting. 80% of the time the voice acting is great... but then 20% of the time the character accents will change, the quality of the voice lines will change, and in a few instances I'm pretty sure the voice actor actually completely changed. Again - it feels like things were rushed out the door towards the end.

I'm still planning on finishing the game, but I cannot recommend it for the pricetag they are asking. And with the kickstarter for the next game using AI generated art (no idea if they have for the game as that was the point I stopped paying attention), I'm sad to say that this is likely my last excursion into the My Time At... franchise.

This is a really cool take on the horde-survival game type that feels like its drawing a lot of inspiration from Space Beast Terror Fright (another game that I adore). Its an incredibly fun little title that costs less than a coffee, and feels like an amazing first project from someone who has a long future of cool projects ahead of them. Really enjoying this!

Give the demo a try... or just buy it straight away idk. Game is very good.

Gunplay is super satisfying. The loop is addictive as all hell. Art style and music is so pleasant and fun. All rough this is a very good game and if you played the demo and thought it was cool, or just saw the screenshots and thought "that looks cool" you could do a lot worse with your money. Easy recommend.

A really fun take on the whole life sim/cooking sim genre with a cute art style and fun vibe. Really happy I kickstarted it and it got to release!
