If you enjoy RTS, you simply have to play this.

Cheesy B-movie cut scenes.
Fantastic soundtrack.
Badass units.
Unique atmosphere that frankly no other game I know of has captured.

It all amalgamates into a masterpiece.
The expansion, Firestorm only makes it even better than it already was, with memorable characters and moments in the bucket loads.

Stop listening to me waffle on and buy it, in the name of Kane.

This game was brilliant at first, setting a dark, gritty atmosphere, made you feel like you were fighting a genuine war against a hopeless situation, in a rapidly deteriorating city, against the absolute worst of humanity.

Unfortunately Censorship has ultimately betrayed this and ruined the dark tones this game was going for. It's such a shame because it had such a great thing going. Feels like a betrayal to long time PC players.

Despite the influx of negative comments (Which DO have a valid point, for most at least), I don't think this game deserves a bad reputation at all.

Gameplay-wise, if you liked the first, you will very much enjoy this one too. The classes are somewhat simplified compared to the first game, however it remains very fun, I'm currently running the advanced vocation, Mystic Spearhand and I can only describe it as 'Darth Maul if he were in Devil May Cry', a class that can attack with both magical long range bolts, or zip into melee range with a magical double-ended spear, as well as being able to do a teleport similar to Vergil/Dante from DMC, all whilst looking stylish.
The other classes I have yet to all try, but I can attest to Sorcerer being just as satisfying as the first game, it just never gets old being able to fill the entire screen with an obnoxiously large whirlwind, or rain meteors down from the sky.
Right now I have a spear that can swat goblins into the atmosphere, Team Rocket style, it's hilarious.

Whilst the game does have MTX, I really think it should be known that it doesn't require these at all, ferrystones, wakestones and RC are all very available just by playing the game naturally, and whilst I very much agree that they shouldn't be in the game, I can't bring myself to review negatively in the game, because it's very evident from playing, that the dev team really put their blood, sweat and tears into this. The MTX is the fault of the big suits at the top, the devs probably didn't want it as much as we. The game is genuinely enjoyable to play, and I have never found myself lacking anything unless it was because of my own human error as a player, rather than as a consequence of game design, the game does provide you with the means to get plenty of resources.

One thing I will say, this game doesn't hold your hand, but, then, I personally don't consider this a bad thing either, it's a little bit 'oldschool', in that it expects the player the progress forward through common sense, exploration and wits, rather than just telling you exactly what to do, and I respect that. It'll guide you in the rough direction, but once you're there, you gotta figure it out. If you like oldschool style games like that, then you'll understand why I love it. It works for some, it doesn't work for others I guess.

Lastly, there's lots of talk of frame loss, but honestly, I have only ever experienced this within the big city itself, and at worst, it drops to around 30fps. Sure, not great, but certainly not unplayable like people say, and it really only affects a certain, small area of the map, where you're unlikely to be doing any major combat anyway. You'll be out of the city and back to higher frames in no time, so I do have to say I think that whole thing is blown a bit out of proportion, certainly not amazing, but definitely not unplayable. A patch will very likely follow in the near future anyway, so I'm skeptical this is a problem to worry about for the long term.

Overall, I'm enjoying this game very much, The business side sucks of course, but the actual game itself is more than worth it, don't let the reviews stop you from playing, It's very much a fun adventure.

I bought Trepang² whilst trying to find games similar to the FEAR games and not only did this satisfy that itch, it completely smashed my expectations.

The game play is fast-paced and incredibly fun, whilst still offering a good challenge, it comes with a few curb-balls to change the pace of the game however, if you're a fan of horror, you'll enjoy it. You can cloak or slow time, you have superhuman strength and speed, the formula is basic, but it's by no means bad, it's some of the most gratifying gameplay I've experienced in any recent releases.

The soundtrack is just chef's kiss. It takes clear inspiration from Doom Eternal, however posseses it's own unique identity, and absolutely gets the adrenaline pumping, even if you decide the game isn't for you, I do recommend still checking out the soundtrack.

My only real criticism is that the game is short. I just wish there was more, I was having so much fun that I didn't want it to end, however make no mistake, what is there is absolutely worth your time. The game allows you to also unlock various cosmetics, cheats and weapon upgrades via multiple replays on different difficulties and in simulator modes however, so there's a ton of replayability.

And the final cherry on top for me was the entirely hidden secret backrooms level, but I'll leave that for everyone else to find.

If you liked the FEAR games, or even DOOM, absolutely pick this game up.
