After being betrayed many times by AAA titles on launch, it had been years since I bought a game at full-price. Yesterday, this stumbled onto my steam dash, and I thought "what the hell. I'm ready to get hurt again." Instead, I am healed, my faith in new games restored. I started playing this game thinking I would refund it before the 2 hour mark and instead found myself giddy for the duration. Hi-Fi Rush is so committed to being what it is that it never misses a beat, and executes on its mission in every eighth note; there is tangible love and artistry in every beat. Well-worth the price!

It's a smorgasbord of my favorite things: the narrative concept of baby driver, the artistry of into the spider-verse, the combat of devil may cry, and a sprinkle of flcl from the simple pleasure of stylishly smashing robots with an electric guitar while dope music plays. A game I didn't know I needed until I played it. The protagonist is The Guy Ever, and while normally that would be grating, it just fits perfectly with the game to the point where I find myself charmed instead. If any of this appeals to you, get this game or tell your friends about it!
